omg! thank u! so THAT is what that room we use as a 'wine cellar' in our house must be! (it's down the stairs from the kitchen, in the northern part of our house, dark, cool...) our house is old enough to have needed a larder at its beginnings.

we use it to store our wine (it is almost always at a steady 55F, even without refrigeration) and various excess pantry items.

I think truffle salt is TERRIFIC sprinkled over scrambled eggs. If you want to gild the lily: add some truffle oil to boot. NUM. :)

my favorite quick meal:

I agree with shlowzl, and as far as I know, ppl with Type 2 diabetes have to avoid sugar, the same as ppl with Type 1 diabetes.

You can substitute sugar (i.e., sugar, maple syrup, fruits) with things that have a low glycemic index like agave...but the most common option (and I know ppl don't want to hear this) is to use Splenda for baking.

Best knife sharpening in Berkeley/Oakland, especially if you have Japanese knives is Hida Tool on San Pablo in Berkeley:
www.hidatool.com
1333 San Pablo Ave
Berkeley, CA 94702
(510) 524-3700

I dropped my knives (2 Globals, 1 Henckel, 1 Chicago Cutlery, 1 Shun) off one morning, picked them up at the end of that day. They are as good as new. I'm not the only person who's a fan of Hida Tool--just yelp or google them and you'll find good reviews all over the place.

I wish I liked this, but I don't. I really really don't like kombucha (I excitedly bought a bottle, opened it up, and filled my mouth with the drink...only to react in utter shock, and spat it out of my mouth). I never spit things back out!

however, I do like getting insight into this drink (and for the record, it's nice to know that apparently making kombucha is NOT comprised of stuffing old fruit into a pitcher of water, sticking it under the warm sun, letting some insects die in it, spitting into it a few times, then encouraging birds to bathe in it before drinking, 5 weeks later...) :) :) :)

:) :) :)
all in good fun. :)

kellyk: as i see it, pa jeon is a simple flour based pancake (mixed with veggies as you see above, or seafood or kimchi). bin dae duk has a base of mung beans, cooked similarly (i.e., fried in a pan) and with similar appearance (a savory "pancake"). but slightly different taste because of the mung beans.
