Hey!!! That's my rug! The rug in the photo is identical to the one I inherited from my grandmother, who was a world traveler and furniture collector. Mine is a bit more banged-up than the photo, but that's the one. Does anyone know more about the origins? Quick History: Yurts Retrospect |

There seem to be some haters in this comment thread, which I find just plain strange. It's a lovely home, I really appreciate seeing a place beautifully furnished without unlimited funds, and I have those exact same minty tiles in the bathroom. And if you want to take a bath, you can always just move the litter box for a little while! That is what us actual small space dwellers sometimes call Not a Big Deal. Yes! I have a bright blue shabby-chic bookshelf with color-coded books, the bookshelf is just a touch darker blue than the color on the walls, and it looks divine. Colorful Bookcases |

At my new place, I'm four blocks from the train, five blocks from a huge public park, one block from laundry, three blocks from the beergarden, and two blocks from two of my closest friends. Groceries and pharmacy are a subway stop away, but it's worth the compromise, especially for the BFF neighbors :) Apartment Must Haves: Within Walking Distance Reader Survey |

@am_clarke if you haven't already, consider getting rid of your dish drying rack. I have verrry little counter space and putting the contraption away makes a world of difference. Hand drying dishes is not so bad! 5 Smart Studio Apartment Layouts |

Right now I'm just over a month post-move and all my books remain in boxes because I can't put the bookshelves together until the living room is painted, and I can't paint the room until I pick a color. Living with 6 unpacked boxes in a small one-bedroom is not awesome, and I can't wait to finally unpack that last box! Moving On: Unpacking the Final Box |

Ditto the 3-prong to 2-prong adapters, and I would add COMET to the list. If you haven't already, get rid of any cardboard boxes you might have. Roaches/water bugs love that stuff, so recycle it or list it on craigslist for someone who is moving. If you have adhesive shelf liner, get rid of it, give the cupboards a good scrub, and replace the liners with non-adhesive ones. Roaches love that sticky stuff. Prevent Water Bugs Naturally? @the urban girl - of course, he's the one who lives there and if it works for him and he's happy, that is all that really matters. I just would like to point out that this apartment is pretty different, singular even, and not necessarily a representation of what you can get for $800/mo here. For all the commenters saying "this is why I can't live in NYC," this is just so different than the norm. Many of my friends pay lower rent (in a share) for a lot more space. I'm sorry.... this is CRAZY. The smallness of the space is one thing, but the thing I can't get over is this: Dealing w/ this tiny apartment, just so you get to live in midtown? For a fraction more he could live in Queens, 20 minutes from midtown, in a sizeable studio. I guess if you like living in midtown, you like it, but there are much nicer neighborhoods where there are affordable, nicely sized apartments to be found. Life's too short! I make Polenta by starting with a cup of milk and maybe a half cup of water, bring that to boil, whisk in a cup of corn meal, and then keep adding more water for a long time. I feel like those white cabinets are pretty cool so balancing them out with a warm color makes sense - but if you have gross renter oak cabinetry in a kitchen that is also the living room of your 1-bedroom... as I do... do you HAVE to go with warm tones for this "social" space? Because warm colors against those warm, horrible oak cabinets just look atrocious. And I like blue. I know rules are made to be broken, but any thoughts on my conundrum would be so appreciated.
