I sometimes feel like I am missing something when I see these gigantic. cavernous kitchens. Is that actually appealing to people or is it just an inspiring fantasy?

What a shame, the end result isn't my style but the original had such a nice, special grain!

The edging looks a bit weird in the photo. I think I might have made it smidge deeper too, so there's a little overhang over the drawers. Very practical overall.

Yeah, the store that prides itself on ultra-cheap and had to recall food made with horsemeat and you are surprised they have low quality food?

I'm not surprised.

So here's my fairly elaborate and somewhat expensive system:

- walnut hull litter (http://bluebuffalo.com/healthy-home/blue-naturally-fresh-cat-litter) Nothing I've ever used comes close on reducing smell, dust and tracking. Also, as a person who grew up on a farm I have a phiosphical problem with first world people turning food into something for their cats to pee on. This avoids that. No one eats walnut hulls.

- The litter box they have to climb out (http://www.clevercatinnovations.com/top_entry_litterbox_about.aspx)

- surround it all with cheap cotton rugs you can change and wash easily.

Have you seriously never heard of Consumer Reports?

Speaking as a landlady, I can say that you could probably work something out where you can install blinds, shades or an attic fan (or all three). They might even help cover the cost. It would be a good thing to negotiate in your next lease renewal especially if they pay for utilities. AC units are super expensive on power bills, in my experience.

If you are a good tenant non-slumlords will be happy to make a minor upgrade to keep you on. In the US at least, anything the landlord spends on this is tax deductible.

A lot of random stuff trying to be trendy is not working, IMO. The light fixture, the weird strip of framed pictures. Proportion is way off, to my taste. There's so much good stuff here with pattern and color I think the room could be sensational with a little editing.

One of the cool things about granola is that it is so easy to make at home, and you can customize it for your preferences -- don't like it too sweet? No problem. I make mine heavy on the oats, light on the syrup and oil, NO HATEFUL RAISINS or other dried fruit and with plenty of nuts and seeds.

Yay, not having to eat raw oats like a horse!

Consumer Reports gave IKEA cabinets a top rating. There's NOTHING wrong with their quality.

Maybe I am just being a grump but the vinyl tool holders don't actually seem to be doing such a great job. Part of the reason you hang tools is to keep them off the floor, but the PVC is too wide to do that, so the tools' ends are resting on bricks. I think using wooden cleats (made out of scrap wood) similar to this might have been easier:

I've seen stuff like this in many people's garages in my city. Seems to work great. There's also the whole "PVC is a toxic nightmare" issue.

Lovely organization job though.

I hate to be the dissenting view here, but it looks cheap to me. Tiles are better than self adhesive tile. It makes it look like a slumlord did it to avoid an expensive renovation.

I'm not so sure what's offensive about vintage butterscotch. I think if the color was on a couch in an apartment in Austin Apt Therapy would probably feature it.

Clearly I'm in the minority here, though.

The evidence overwhelmingly shows that eating lots of fruits and veggies is good for you. I'm not exactly clear on why that's so difficult for folks.
