Will only work if you pull together with pillows & accessories, otherwise the chair is too dark and too chunky in and of itself to complement the sofa.

Definitely bare. Add drapes & artwork (preferably something with some texture to it, as opposed to flat) as above, plus some placemats (table cloth probably too big), and see how it looks then. If still bare, then add a rug.

Urg. Furthermore, "..some really beautiful functional sculptures.." is not much of a write-up for something that is guaranteed to stir strong reactions.

The puns were funny.

I've got a small clear-glass vase in the soap holder, and my favorite perfume bottle in the cup portion of the toothbrush holder. They're set too high for me to be able to put flowers in the vase in without blocking the medicine cabinet door, so I filled it part-way with tiny sea shells.

Queenbee, I'm going to use your solution - I swear I fall asleep standing up in the shower!

Okay, so you took a giant flying leap into Color My World decorating and landed flat on your ass, but hey, it's only life :-) Even your headline was colorful: "My living room makes me nauseous!" instead of "oops I'm having a wee problem with paint selection." I don't have anything to add to the advice you've already gotten, but just had to say, once you've got some skills to go with your gusto, you'll have a vibrant, original and liveable space. Have fun!

Actually, with a different rug, the table will look more harmonious with your sofa and chairs. The rug looks dark, rumpled & furry, and detracts from the modern lines of the table - being glass, it really needs something to set it off. I'd look for a rug that was larger, lighter, and close-cropped, perhaps with a simple bold graphic that picks up the colors in the chairs. Good luck!

What a delightful & refreshing request :-) No suggestions, except that if you want to search etsy, type: dancing bears NOT dead - that will screen out the greatful dead bears.

"We" sound like we're needing a dash of prozac in the eggnog. Why use words like glum, gloomy, depressing and dead to evoke a month that hasn't even arrived yet? The succulent wreath is gorgeous, but if tradition and the smell of pine make you happy, why switch? I've got a seven foot cut/live Christmas tree up and decorated with four generations worth of ornaments: an antique blue bulb from my great-grandmother, hand-sewn angels and stars from flannel scraps from my grandmother, vintage 50's glass ornaments from my parents, and sequined satin balls I made from a craft kit when I was a teenager. My tree is an oversize bouquet to my heritage, and its deep, evergreen scent transports me to my happiest childhood memories. When I walk past Christmas trees piled on the sidewalk for the recycling truck in January, I don't feel glum; I feel grateful for the festive season I enjoyed, and for the years, cycling around again and again to the mystery of darkness and rebirth, that brought me here.

I don't usually go negative, so as to keep distance from the troll/hater/immature mentality that sadly surfaces even here, but those splayed deer leg seats are a horrifying abomination. I can't even connect to the rest of the post.

Great advice, thanks - very thorough. Also helps to find some way to anchor the tree to keep it from tipping over. Put a weighted board under the tree and wire the tree stand, or secure against the wall if feasible (the way you would for a bookcase). Lastly, do keep an eye on the pets - when I was a kid, our Siamese cat Cleo must have eaten some tinsel when we weren't looking, because she developed a second, shiny "tail" that earned her the inelegant nickname "Tinselbutt."

could possibly work for a minute with young 20-somethings in an uber-ironic-kiddieregressive studio or loft. Very easy to grow out of, or to regret purchasing-under-influence. Better to look for other accessories with the colors you have in mind, and haul the game out for your most beloved sesquipi
