Love the kitchen and LOVE that you took pix from the same spots so we can really compare and see what you've done. You made so many changes, it would be hard to tell what was what otherwise. That kind of vision isn't easy.

Have you built it yet? How did it work out?

If I build one, I'm thinking I'd do something different for the "camo". The Lack tables would look a little cheap, I think. I'm thinking of getting a carved wooden screen and using that as an outside cover. But that means that I couldn't do the legs with the bungee cords (to be honest, that all sounds a little shakey to me anyway), so I'm thinking I'd get a storage bench or storage footstools/ottomans that I'd use to out the bedding in during the day.

From what you've seen of your neighbors and your experience building one, do you think my ideas would work?

I hope you're still on AP & look forward to hearing back from you here.

I've been considering Norden and Varde for my kitchen. Are those the models people talked about when referring to butcher block countertop? If you've used either of them, please comment specifically on them.

Emilie, what fronts did you use? I'm torn between used farmhouse furniture from about the same era you mentioned and the Ikea kitchen. Nice to hear there's something that might work with both!

Ikea has really high standards for their forestry & wood supplies. That's backed up by a friend who was in one of the EEuropean forests they use while doing a dissertation on resources there. He doesn't hesitate to buy Ikea wood & neither do I.

This is what I've been trying to figure out in my bedroom. It's all creamy neutrals and beige/tan walls, but it feels totally bland and blah. Her website gives me a few ideas...

When I hear the phrase "connect the dots", especially in political contexts, I sort e roll my eyes. That phrase is stale and was corny to begin with. But I don't dwell on it; I move into the main idea of the sentence/conversation. You might want to try the same. Isn't it cool that people came up with different ways to use this item?

Compromise--there is no way I'm going to get my entire study in order in a day, but I can go through the 5 boxes of books my kid doesn't want any more, pull the ones I want to keep, and take the rest to a reseller/charity.

Hooray--something I'm already good at! I think that's because I literally collapse and can *never* find my keys if they don't have an assigned place. And I still need to work on a regular time to go through the important mail that piles up.

vjm, we got a shelf at Marshalls (I've seen them at Home Goods too) that looks like a piece of moulding. It's 3" or 4" deep. Hanging it meant hanging 2 screws for holes in the back of the shelves.

monet, what about those hooks you hang over the back of the door?

bzak, VINEGAR! It's a great cleaner. If you use baking soda as scouring powder, you can get a little extra action.

We just moved in July, so the shelves have all been wiped down (relatively) recently, but the fridge is full of old food that I'm waiting to clear out until I've built the veggie bed, so I can use that old food as compost in the very bottom layer of the planter. SOoooo, I take this post as a prod to get that planter built this weekend, then clean out the fridge.
Looking forward to it :)

My pantry is a coat closet that a previous tenet built a set of utility shelves in. Very simple, the shelves fit perfectly--it's great!

Painting a chalkboard on one wall of our hallway. I thought it was whimsical when I thought of it, but DS has made several comments that make it clear that would be a great place to write checklists for getting ready for school/bed, lists of things to do, notes to each other, that sort of thing.

I have no idea how I missed earlier calls for problems. Mine sounds little, but it is big to me:
My living room has boxy-looking modern pieces in black and white with a red rug. I want it to have Byzantine/Moroccan/Andalusian flair, but have no place to put things. I intentionally avoid horizontal places because they gather clutter in my home. But this is so spare and bland looking it's kind of depressing!

Whoa! There is A LOT to do at our house. We got it to a minimal level of functionality after moving in & then just stopped. Hope this works!

Make it obviously functional and in good working order, but don't do the big stuff--new owners can do that as they settle in and have time to think about it.

How To Freshen Up This Kitchen in Preparation For Selling? Good Questions

When I had a door like this, there was no way to detach the frame, so that might not work for you either. If you want to try the film again, you might want to cut patterns first. Once they fit perfectly, trace them onto the film and cut.

The paint idea sounds fun. If it was me, I'd get some lacy looking paper doilies and hold them up to the window when I sprayed the paint, so that there would be a lace pattern in the window.

There are magic markers made for drawing on windows, if you can think of something good for this space. Probably easier to use than stained glass paint, but not as classy-looking.

Good luck!

starting to panic now...doesn't anyone visit this site anymore?

I went ahead and ordered the directions--not much longer til my parents come to visit--and am not reassured.

Does one pop the legs on and off every time the bed is raised/lowered?

The moddi site claims they'll include alternate ideas for the outside, but they don't. Ikea is far away and rental cars aren't cheap. If I don't use the lack tables, then what do I do about legs?

Thanks,

abf or anyone else who can help, yes, PLEASE tell me what modifications are necessary. I'm going to be doing this in Germany so the materials may be slightly different anyway, so I really need to have the steps down pat.

abf, thanks for commenting on the lack tables vs. other surface. i might be doing this without Ikea too, just like you.

2 questions here, and I really hope for answers!

First off, I haven't purchased the instructions yet. Can someone please tell me if I'll have to use the Lack tables? Our 600 sq ft of sunshine already has quite a bit of Ikea, so I'd much rather have a different surface.
Would it work to have all one big board, or to somehow use strips of material?

Secondly, a couple commenters have mentioned knowing when NOT to follow the instructions. Like stacyjkcmo, I don't trust myself to recognize when that's necessary.
I've seen Greep's advice and will follow it. What else is there that I should be aware of?

Thanks for your help!
