We just picked one basic neutral & painted every ceiling & wall before moving our furniture in the room..now we are just living with every room the same color so we can feel out the space & decorate from here. It got rid of the hideous colors on the walls so we didn't have to live with them AND it gave us time to decide what we really want for the long(er/ish) run.

Should I Paint Before or After Moving In? Good Questions

we are planning to move home in the next few months & have started selling off all of our "non-keepers" .. the only thing I decided I must keep is this old sideboard we literally found on the side of the road when I was in college. It's nothing ritzy, flashy, or fancy..it's a little battered & bruised... but it fits everything i need it to hold & i just really adore it.

that's right of all of my prized possessions, the one i love the most was somebody else's trash. =)

Not gonna lie.. I tired out after reading most of the comments so I just skipped to the bottom to add my 2cents, so if anybody said these already - my apologies!

I'll start with griping - its the first thing that came to mind haha. My husband & I got married June 08 & registered with Target. The main things I'd like to complain about are (1) the dishes (target home collection) (2) the bedspread (not sure what line its from, but they still sell it right now, its the one that comes in a variety of colors but are all the same set), & (3) the towels (once again, I believe they are target home)

The dishes we bought in August of 2008 & are already basically scratched up & look years older than they are. I wish I never bought them. While most people opt for fine china when they get married, we thought we were being more sensible when we bought these cool leaf patterned 'stoneware' ones from Target - it instead not even a year later looks like shotty dishes from a college apartment.

The bedspread & duvet were $100 each. To me- that is expensive. And let me tell you BOTH of them have threads coming out of them. Starting to look tired & tattered. The matching sheets are constantly wrinkled looking, so much that you can't see the detail. In contrast, for my freshman year of college 6 years ago I bought a $50 kmart special martha stewart bed in the bag & the comforter still looks rockin' compared to my $200 worth of target bedding.. GRRR ( the $60 for the sheets!)

The towels... well they are doing what towels do. Except they are about a year old & look like they are about 5 years old. They weren't especially fluffy. I wouldn't call them scratchy, but fluffy = no no no!

I'll *NEVER* buy Target bedding again.
I'll *NEVER* buy Target dishes again.
I'll *NEVER* buy Target's cheap towels again.

The sad thing is... I still love Target. I think I need therapy.

a 2nd (3rd or 4th or 5th- i didn't really count?) for stacking them on their side. And I like the actual mason jar over those CB ones. To each their own =)

i'm obviously dumb- if that isn't attached to the wall ("they'd solve the problem many renters have of not being able to mount their TVs on the wall")...then how are they supporting the weight of the tv?? =( i feel dumb. lol

I like the idea of it being on the left wall personally. Use the shelf's built in bookend on the oneside & the wall would be the bookend on the other side - although I wouldn't butt it straight up to the wall.

I do agree tho- that shelf doesn't look strong enough to hold many books. eek. be careful!

Ive got a wireless printer.. so its away in the closet. The only thing on my desk is an imac, mouse, keyboard & some vases... And with an imac, thats 1 powercord.

I agree that most of these are unrealistic...but its possible to hide the clutter =)

Ohh nice stapler, Sarah. I feel like AT reads my mind sometimes. Its finals time here & our stapler keeps jamming when I insist it can staple entire reams of paper at a time (obvious over exaggeration). I think I successfully broke it & am now on a prowl for a new one. Love that red!

GREAT idea with the computer books.. We just purged & donated about 50 of them from college because in about a year they go from being $200 books to 50cent dust collectors... I am not much for the invisible bookshelf idea (just a personal opinion), but the computer books are definitely an amazing idea for the "bottom sacrificed" book...You can find tons of them at goodwill =)

You could seal them to a piece of wood (cardboard?) and then hang that to the wall.. thus eliminating the ability to rip/burn them

plus then its easier to get down when you grow sick of it or its time to move.. you just have to remove the pieces you mounted the paper to instead of every square of paper & the goo left behind by the dots

Thanks for the posts & the 2 new additions to my summer reading list! I was a year into a law degree until I realized I love furniture & all things interior design.. and hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt is not a good place to hit the breaks haha I still devote the summers to my love for fine design as a welcomed break from case law =)

Thanks again for the amazing book suggestions!

wow ok so re-read that now.. Lots of typos.. I tried pulling the curtains out wider to make the window look wider... and *fighting not righting the window haha

We tried this in our place & everything I did to change it & mimick the photos I fell in love with just did not work.. Our windows are really tall & slender. I tried using them wider to make the window look wider & everything and it just looked like the bed righting the window for your attention.. I hated it & moved the bed back off the wall.

I love the look of the curtains enveloping the sides of the headboard/bed. It just looks so comforting & rich. My headboard right now stinks, but I haven't had anytime to make it feel more welcoming. I am jealous of this as it makes me want to curl up & go to bed! Not really a good thing for a law student lol
