What a great post - THANK YOU for showing us that a well-appointed kitchen doesn't necessarily make one a good cook. My family and I chuckle whenever we watch one of those home improvement or real estate shows where someone swears they "need" a huge kitchen w/granite, etc. so they can cook. I know I can pump out some seriously tasty vittles in my tiny kitchen, as I'm sure many others who visit this site can as well. Yay to small spaces! Yay to creative cooks! Bonus points = this is not your shiny, '80s brass. That stuff sucks. I don't mind the matte, brushed look. In This Kitchen, It's All About the Brass Workstead |

Hi, I thought for sure I'd find the name/brand of that beautiful green paint in the "sources"... and I don't see it on the blog. (or, I'm completely blind... which is entirely possible on a Friday afternoon.) Can you let us know? It's a great color. Kenley's Brave Green Room My Room |

I not only clean as I go, I try to consolidate duties to as few cooking implements as possible (veggies go into the pasta water to blanch during the last minute or two, make a pan sauce/deglaze vs. using a separate pot, etc.). My kitchen is small - so it drives me nuts to have a sink full of dishes before my family even sits down to dinner. This way, the Husba9000(TM) can clean up quickly and we can spend some time chilling out w/the kids. Clean Up! Do You Clean As You Go? |

I had to surrender my son's veggie & fruit purees. Nasty, processed stuff in a jar? Sure, you can take that with you... homemade food for my child? Nope. Even though I'd done it before... it honestly depends on how little a particular agent pays attention to or cares about the written rules. You're supposed to be able to take food/drink/formula/breastmilk for kids on board, but I didn't have time to argue and our flight was getting close to boarding time. Thank goodness it was a fairly short flight. I Am Not a Gel: Share Your Air Travel Food Stories |

I'm thinking about the vinyl plank flooring I keep seeing installed in basements (hello, Income Property I'm talking to you, Scott)... I think they're made by Armstrong. My kitchen is wet all the time since our side door is the closest to the driveway... sounds like a good compromise between wood and lino. You know, except for the noxious fumes and all. :) Easy Clean Kitchen Flooring Choices |

I bit the bullet and just did it so my (very tiny) kitchen could be a lot more functional and less "closed in" with upper cabinets. Best decision ever. It forced me to purge a lot of unnecessary items and keep things relatively neat. It's not difficult keeping things stacked neatly - plus, now that I have fewer items on the shelves (enough for a family of 4, plus guests) we rotate through plates, bowls, glasses, etc. much more frequently to keep things dust/grease-free. Occasionally, I have to wash a seldom used item (soup tureen anyone?), but I'm already thinking about how much I *really* need to have that tureen as a unitasker...
