I'd go with a vintage color with punch - like cantaloupe or veering into the pinky oranges. Not a fully saturated hue though. I would also look for an vintage style bar cart or something similar for interesting storage. I recently saw A Single Man so I'm a wee bit obsessed with 50s/60s washes of color and bathroom accessories. While I like the mirror over your tub very much, I would probably switch it out for something with more detail or mixed material. Personally, I would remove the towel rack in favor or two robe/towel hooks.

And of course a beautiful bit of artwork wouldn't hurt.

my favorite colors right now are rich white, inky plum, and gray (everything from taupy to silvery) - all of which would serve to balance the warmth of the brick and the wood in the space. i would wait to paint anything but the walls until you live with it for a while and see how much those columns bother you. of course, no painting brick!

best of luck!

I think I'm the only one who prefers the smaller rug. I think the big one, especially in a light color, would just overpower and "run" into furniture on either end. I have a BIG flokati and it is a pain in the ass to clean but I love it otherwise. To me, a smaller rug would make the bolder impact - frame the coffee table, the front legs of the chairs would rest on it. Good job on all the stuff Sadie!

i'm confused about which niche you are talking about so maybe my advice won't be helpful. the one to the right, i initially thought was origami cranes strung on a string, which actually would be very sweet and inexpensive! If you choose to paint, perhaps thing about a monochromatic color scheme so as not to make it too visually confusing. Also, a more distinct piece of furniture in the left niche would be very nice so that it's shape and design are a piece of art as well. So you could still paint it a bold hue but find a more interesting piece.

i had a jack and jill bathroom with one roommate and she refused to close the 'her' door when she had sex. it was so uncomfortable laying in my bed and night knowing what she was doing but also desperately having to pee. obviously, i went in and closed the door - sometimes inconspicuously, sometimes not depending on my annoyance. but she was a friend of a friend of a friend. i've had great experiences too!

I definitely think a bright white is the way to go in a round, organic shape. And I wouldn't be so concerned about blocking the painting. There are so many angles to view the painting that it wouldn't be a problem. Also, your fixture will be a little piece of art too to echo the impact of the art.

I whole heartedly agree with John. Colors and color combinations can be interpreted in hundreds of different ways. You should start with the feeling you want and move from there - keeping in mind that many different pieces of furniture, colors, textures, etc can contribute to that "feeling."

I agree - first step - declutter. The above posts are great so I won't needlessly repeat. But I will say, in an effort to personalize the space, maybe think about vertical artwork. In other words, hanging a mobile, chandelier, a great lamp with some vertical lines. For inspiration, http://lushliving.com/furn6.html. I think the last one would particularly suit your space. I've seen them in person and the scale would be right on. I know you are trying to save money here though so think of it merely as inspiration.

i agree with max on the color - even though I sometimes think accent walls can get a little cliched because then it's like the stand alone wall. what I thought might be good to tie that wall into the rest of the space is to do some simple half round moulding painted in the same ice blue for the bedroom. the moulding would be the same size rectangles on your slanted walls. the idea being that same size rectangles would detract from mixmatched walls. also, since you like moulding, in your sitting room you could do a chair rail and have that be the natural boundary for color. Paint everything below the rail. Good luck!!
