I have a set of ceramic salt and pepper shakers that are little birds. They sit atop my stove. I've been looking for a piece of artwork to hang over the stove as I don't have a black splash, just the painted wall, but I haven't found anything that meshes with the other artwork in the space.

I lived in Florence, Italy or a summer and absolutely adored the casement windows. Ours were open whenever we were at home, and sometimes when we werent since we lived in the 4th floor of a 6 story building. I miss a lot of things about living abroad, but opening up my windows to lean out and watch the people on the piazza is definitely one of the biggest.

2 king size fluffy ones, 2 standard size kinda hard ones and a body pillow... all for me. I rearrange them all night long too.

Wow... this article and comments make me sad. I mean, I don't live in a big city right now, but I used to live in Tampa, which is decently sized and I would never hesitate to answer the door. Especially for a teenager asking for some sugar. How depressing.

I painted my mothers bathroom black. She has 1940's mint green and black tile on the walls and black and white hexagonal tile on the floor and I walked in and said "this room needs to be painted black." She hemmed and hawed for months about it but in the end trusted me and she absolutely loves it. Anytime someone goes in there they come out and say "I LOVE YOUR BLACK BATHROOM!" It is fabulous.

In my studio apartment (less than 500sq ft) the my biggest issue isn't space or storage, its keeping it clean. It seems like even just leaving a glass out or art supplies laid across my dining area makes the whole place seem totally trashed. I love my apartment. I really hate cleaning.

The best sweet potato recipe ever. It is the only way I will make sweet potatoes anymore.

Peel and cut potatoes into about one inch chunks. Toss in a roasting pan with olive oil, salt pepper, honey and cinnamon. I eyeball all of the ingredients and it never tastes bad, just sometimes sweeter than others depending on the honey. Bake in a 400 degree oven uncovered until the potatoes are fork tender. So easy and always gets me compliments.

My favorite Thanksgiving ever my freshman year of college when I was living in the dorm. Everyone went home but my mom came to me. She slept in my roommates bed and the morning of thanksgiving she went to the store and bought all kinds of Thanksgiving foods that could be made in the microwave. It was amazing and delicious, if a little cold. We spent the rest of the day walking around the deserted campus in the cold and watching 80's movies. One of my favorite memories with my mom.

When I was 11 I got to redecorate my room and the color I chose was "Proud Peach" and it was a yellow-y version of the inside of a peach. My bedspread was blue, green and yellow. At 14 I painted my room periwinkle. In college I found the motivation to paint one apartment hot pink... that was a misstep. The past few years I've been living in landlord white and don't mind it horribly. I'm moving tomorrow and hoping to paint my studio apartment a light warm gray and my bathroom a dark warm gray. I prefer a neutral pallet these days. I like a bit of color... just as an accent.

I didn't realize that was a European thing... I hate flat sheets and always have. I would kick them off when I was little and when I was old enough to make my own bed I just stopped using them. If I can I buy fitted sheets and pillowcases by themselves instead of a whole set. I also only use a duvet in the winter, in the summer its just a coverlet.

Is this really a problem for some people?? I have lived in a few 4+ room mate situations where we all download/stream/game like crazy and I have never run into this problem.

I collected porcelain dolls when I was little. Starting when I was about 6 and my uncle's girlfriend gave me one for Christmas. By the time I was 16 I had dozens and they took up a whole armoir inside and out in my bedroom. They are all wrapped in bubble wrap and newspaper in a box in my moms garage because my brother got my room when I went to college and I couldn't take them with me.

I figure one day when I stop moving all the time and have a house of my own I'll unpack them and keep a few of my favorites and donate the rest.

My mom just bought a house built in the 1940's and the bathroom tile had been painted over in white. She spent weeks scouring and sitting in paint remover fumes to get to this look of mint green and black tile that was hidden underneath. Please don't paint it. We painted the walls a very dark charcoal... not quite as black as the actual tile. I painted some artwork to match the color of the tile, added a geometric shower curtain that went with the colors we were going for, and we replaced the sink and its totally retro chic now.

i studied abroad in florence last summer. i LOVE that city so much. id definitely suggest going to the medici chapel, as someone already said. its really beautiful and often over looked. dont bother going in the duomo, its pretty boring, if you are gonna go into the churches you should go to santa croce or santa maria novella. also, this is probably pretty common knowledge but the david that is outside isnt the real david. the real one is in the accademia. go explore all the little streets of oltrarno, the other side of the arno river. its where all the artisans of the city are. in school we were lucky enough to visit the artisans and watch them work and there are some amazing silver and goldsmiths, printers and paper makers, and just great little shops. just wander around and you will find something amazing. the best gelato in the whole city is right at the end of the ponte santa trinita. thats the bridge next to the ponte vecchio. trust me, my friends and i tried almost every gelateria in florence and even tho they say vivoli is the best its not. its good, but that little one across the bridge was the one we ALWAYS walked a mile each way for. im sorry i dont remember the name. if you have the time, ride a city (or tourist) bus up to fiesole. its a short drive and there are some great roman ruins up there and the views of the city are absolutely incredible.

three restaurants i have to reccomend. they are all cheap (student budgets haha) and the proprietors are so nice and the food is fabulous. the first is Antico Noe, a little sandwhich shop go to the door in the alley, dont go in to sit down. Lucca the owner is a super hottie that all the girls have a crush on hahaha and he makes the most amazing sandwhiches. get a number 4. OMG. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4866893/21/Over_The_Top

Trattoria Anita was our favorite sit down restaurant. simple and delicious tuscan food. the wait staff are so sweet and the price is just right. lunch there is awesome because you get like 3 courses for 8 bucks.

Del Gatto e la Volpe (the cat and fox) is the third. another sit down restaurant with really good pizza and the most amazing vinegar i have ever had in my life. they make the vinegar themselves and you can buy a big gallon jug for 15 euros i think. my biggest regret leaving florence is not buying that vinegar. Nico, the head waiter is a complete flirt with everyone, its hilarious.

i would get an extra deep stretched canvas, something like this : http://www.artsuppliesonline.com/catalog.cfm?cata_id=8874 that is more proportionate to the wall and you can hang in a more normal place and still cover the meter. then get creative with the front. paint it, modge podge, whatever you want that goes with the rest of the rooms decor.

if you got the right canvas size i would even consider securing a full length mirror to it, just make sure that the nail/hanger is sturdy enough.
