We do a seder potluck every year and this year I'm responsible for bringing something sweet. I'm not much of a baker but hopefully I can do better than store bought macaroons!

I'm going to be moving during the cure this year (just bought a house!) but I'll probably at least start it since it was so much fun last year. Someone mentioned tips on how to organize recipes, I second that! I have recipes all over the place! Knife skills like breaking apart a chicken and also foods you can reuse in creative ways. (Ie. roast a chicken, then use leftover chicken in another meal make stock, etc) I think now since I'm trying to be budget concious and efficient this is more and more important!

I started a list of things I want to do before I turn 29 so they're sort of my resolutions.

The cooking related ones are:
1) bake a loaf of bread
2) make thai curry from scratch
3) Make a bowl of pho (my bf is vietnamese and loves it)
5) cook something from every cookbook I own.

And also (although not on that list)
6) bring my lunch to work at least 3x a week
7) cook with my bf more. (he doesn't cook so well but he's learning)

I think I can do it :)

I wish we did more traditional puerto rican cooking at thanksgiving. I'm not so keen on our thanksgiving feast, but christmas dinner is always divine. (mmm pernil) I need to find a way to gently convince my family that non-traditional food is just fine for thanksgiving.

My CSA (in Minnesota) does frozen winter shares too. I've done summer shares for two years now and this year I'm trying out the frozen share. Can't wait to reach into the freezer in the middle of winter and pull out some great local, organic, veggies.

I'm moving to a place with a yard (a yard! I'm so excited) and these seem like perfect speakers to take outside and enjoy nature to my own soundtrack.

I probably have about 20 now but the number slowly edges up and up. I just love them and I also read them as literature. Often in bed, more often curled up on the couch. Never taken them to the tub but there is a first time for everything.

I love cooking and cookbooks so as long as they don't take over too much I'm happy to keep buying the occasional one that catches my eye. My problem however is the proportion of my cookbooks (most of the 20) are all about asian food but since I adore it, I suppose it's ok.

I've fallen really far behind, I'm still enjoying the posts and I loved the pantry posts, but I really need to get my act together and try to catch up!

Apartment Therapy The Kitchen | Kitchn Cure: Week Six! Checking In...
4/29/08 6:27 PM

I finally managed to do half of the assignment for this week! I went the easy route and roasted some sweet potatoes. This week has been tough for me time wise but I really am trying to keep up. I left my blender at work so the soup will have to wait til tomorrow but I feel pretty good that I am not quite so far behind anymore!

I have to admit I've been slacking, I had an event all weekend so wasn't really able to cook and this week so far has been too busy :( I think I'm going to roast some veggies because I don't have time to go get a yummy chicken and don't feel like getting a normal grocery store one. So I think sweet potatoes it is! Hopefully before the end of the week...

I just finished my "cupboard cooking" assignment. I made breakfast for my boy. Vietnamese omelets with all sorts of stuff I dug out of my cupboards/freezer. They turned out a bit salty (I forgot to subtract salt when I added fish sauce) but they were pretty good.

Hrm good thoughts, thanks renata. I also just re-read Alton Brown's piece on pots/pans (in the back of his I'm just here for the food book) and he has a 12-inch lodge that he likes, so maybe I'll just get one of those (since sara kate recommended it as well)

I never thought about TJ Maxx for pots, I'll have to go find one, I know there is one in town...

Apartment Therapy The Kitchen | Kitchn Cure: Special Weekend Assignment for Over-Achievers

You totally read my mind. One thing I severely lack are both a good saute pan and a chef's knife. (in part because I've been reading Anthony Bourdain's book and he talks about how all you really need is a good chef's knife) I've been debating what to get and I think I'm going to go with a Global chef's knife - anyone have one?

Also, I just got an email the other day from Williams-Sonoma about a frittata pan that they are selling and I was wondering whether that might be a good investment (see it here). It's calphalon and would essentially be two pans for the price of one (and a fritatta pan)

Am I silly for considering it?

I have this bad habit of either eating chips and salsa or mac and cheese when I'm feeling lazy. At least they're organic though.

I also am a big fan of pita or crackers and hummus for dinner.

Lately I've taken to soaking beans while I'm at work and then starting them when I get home. It still takes awhile but I tend to be a late dinner person so it usually works out ok.

Apartment Therapy The Kitchen | Good Question: What Should I Eat On Busy Weeknights?

I've finally caught up! (well I still need to post my pictures from last week, but they are at work :P) I spent today scrubbing my kitchen and trying to organize a little. I still have a ways to go (like go buy a labeler and finally label all my spices!) but I'm happy with my progress so far. Clean kitchens are so much nicer to cook in.

I posted a few pictures here

I am so behind too! And a bit embarrassed to post my "befores" I haven't been home a lot lately and my fridge and cupboards are embarrassingly empty! (and super unorganzied) oh well. I will try to post them tonight. I am looking forward to giving my kitchen a good scrubbing. I've been neglecting it lately.

Also all this processed food cleaning will be good for when my CSA veggies start coming soon. I'll have no excuse not to use them!

I have built-ins like those too, although as you can see they aren't nearly as organized as the ones above! I have total dish envy :)

I'm excited to start. My kitchen is in need of a good cure! Plus I didn't quite make it through the fall cure so hopefully keeping to one room will make it a bit easier so I can actually follow through!
