I was another one who expected to hate this, but the after picture literally made my jaw drop. What a great way to customize and keep the grain visible! Crazy-awesome. Before & After: Craigslist Find Goes from Stately to Seaworthy Musings |

The Diaper Free Baby by Christine Gross-Loh was a huge help to me in terms of elimination communication. The idea that the parent can do this as little or as often as desired was amazingly freeing. Let's Get This Potty Started Right: Potty Training Woes & Wisdom |

We cloth diaper, and went with the step-on can (from Target) and a cloth diaper pail liner. We spray the can and let it air out when we do laundry, and it seems to do pretty well. Do I Need a Diaper Pail? Good Questions |

I got this tip from my sister: bubbles. Especially when your child is behaving, but the other child on a plane needs a distraction, having a small bubbles bottle can truly make travel easier for everyone. I find that the wedding favors bubbles work very well, often better than the bubbles marketed for children. What To Put In a Travel Bag for Toddlers Good Questions |

I like the idea of putting things close enough for my son to get them, but perhaps, after reading the comments, we'll go with soap instead of his toothbrush. Use A Sponge Holder In The Bathroom To Help Out | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

We have no attic, crawl space, or basement, so everything we want stored either goes into the guest room closet or "hidden" in a corner of the living room, i.e. pile it up and throw a blanket over it. We are working on getting rid of things, but there's only so much time with help from a 16-month-old. Where's Your Clutter? | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

We go to the pool as a family (since our son was six weeks). Now (16 months) he actually requests "POOL!" when asked (and sometimes of his own accord). We go almost every day. Exercising at Home with Small Children Underfoot Survey | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

We also have the family google calendar. Or several, actually: one for him, one for me, one for the family, one for birthdays and anniversaries, and one for extended family events (such as when my mother or sister travels and will be out of town). The hardest part was getting my husband used to checking it daily, but it's great now that he does. (There's even one for our menu plans, but that's a work in progress.) One Christmas, I got my young niece and nephew a book each, then made an audio cd of me reading the book, and sent both to them. My sister's family lives too far for us to see each other often, so this was a good way to stay close. My sister liked that, and the next year I got her a membership to the art museum for the whole family. (She had mentioned that specifically earlier in the year, so I wrote it down.) I have a dedicated little bookcase for our library books. Unfortunately, it's little, so there are simply fortifications of books piled around it, which are irresistible to my seven-month-old who likes to topple them. The online list of what I have checked out is invaluable, since I can't lose it. Apartment Therapy ohdeedoh | Survey: Wrangling Library Books |

You could look into subdividing the sandbox, and only filling part of it. The other part could be used for storage for other yard toys, or a place to take shoes on and off, or for adults to sit. Because I always blank when asked, "What do you want for your birthday?" I keep an online wishlist. I have one for my son, too. He's only six months old, but there are plenty of childhood favorite books which have been demolished or have gone to my sister's children. It's a way for me to keep track of things, and provide an answer to people who ask ... but I do think it's tacky to provide the answer before the question is asked.
