Brilliant! I love the mirror backsplash, i was fooled as well until I read the comments. Definitely is the smartest thing to do in a narrow kitchen like that.

I recognize a lot of your furniture, but what are the chairs along the windows with the pillows on them? They are very cute, look like a mix of Eames and Saarinen. Very attractive space! Very bright and cozy.

I do think it's interesting how few people understand eggs and think they spoil so quickly. I think people compare them to dairy, and there's always the idea of "rotten eggs" being so gross... but they can really last for months in the fridge. I agree that when I buy them from the fridge, I store them in the fridge... When i get farm fresh eggs from my family friend I store them on the counter.

While you won't get sick from them being left on the counter, do they last longer in the fridge? That seems like the main reason to keep them there to me, but maybe that's just our idea of keeping everything free from contamination.

I work at a preschool and we have a lot of people from India working at Intel who bring their children to us. They insist on keeping their yogurts, cheese, and most food in their room temperature cubby hours because they don't like to serve their children cold food. Seems so odd to me, but I doubt they'd do it if they ever got sick from it!

I hate to be one of "those people" but it's killing me that broccoli is misspelled on the grocery list...

I guess I'm just OCD and would have done a quick once over before my house was put on Apartment Therapy, ha ha.

I've actually been looking into how to cut our own matting, my husband has a ton of sports memorabilia, especially signed photos or index cards that we've been trying to display that come in odd sizes. I do love to "DIY" but I have to agree that the over cut is totally noticeable to me. Maybe something that is larger and you don't need to see close up... But this would absolutely not work for the stuff we would want to frame in matting.

First of all... I love ikea. I love it. Expedits have stolen my heart. I have 4 of them and need about 2 more.

But seriously... a rich history?

Ingvar Kamprad was an active nazi member. Of course he said it was the "biggest mistake of his life" and that he was influenced by his father and grandfather, the guy probably isn't an idiot. You can't run a gigantic company like that and expect everyone to support an awful decisions like that. Forgiving is great, but let's not forget and preach about how wonderful it's history is... The history of that whole area and time period was really pretty awful. I'm glad he made the company he did... But those were some dark days.

How to Cook Rice on the Stove

Every once in a while I burn the bottom... But I usually have a bigger problem with it bubbling out of the pan, then I have to lift the lid, blow out the bubbles, stir it up and recover... Therefore I never leave my rice unattended, and it's the main reason why I would LOVE a rice cooker! I cook it in a regular metal sauce pan with enough room (maybe halfway full?) So I'm not sure how i could avoid it boiling over.

Any ideas?

I recently read something on "rolling" clothes rather than folding (very similar to filing), and it has saved me a lot of frustration when it came to finding what I was looking for, and pleasure from seeing my beautifully organized drawers!

Love the idea on storing candles and bars of soap in drawers... Candles have always been something I've had a hard time knowing where to put before I'm ready to burn them (I get a lot as gifts, etc)

This house has already been posted on here before... I know because I LOVED it and saved some of the clips for paint inspirations.

Great style! Glad to see a few more shots!

I hate posts like this... Maybe I'm old fashioned, but has anyone ever heard of a holga or polaroid? This is pretty much the same thing but merged... Instagram is the instant gratification of "Hey, I took a cool picture and I'm going to make it look weird by adding in a filter, and in turn, everyone's pictures end up looking exactly the same" with holga, you take a picture and have no idea what it's going to look like. It's a total surprise every time you get film! Makes for some excitement. And hello, like any of us have never seen a camera that just shoots out a picture...

Call me a total "nay-sayer" because I know I'm not in the majority. I'm just not impressed, It's basically already been done.

Even if you don't like ikea products, I mean let's face it - Not all of their stuff is top quality... They still have an amazing show room and beautiful catalog... Great for ideas and inspirations!

MyDeco.com is also a great tool for building your room... It's a british website so the furniture isn't necessarily what you would find here, but you can get the idea of the dimensions.

The greatest part of this website though, is that you can completely build your home by dimensions, walls, etc. You can actually "try on" different paint colors, flooring, doors, windows, in addition to the furniture. I use this more for home remodeling or rearranging, over just furniture shopping. I just fill the space with furniture that is similar enough to what I have.

Considering I live in Portland and it's gray and cloudy enough as it is, I have to say this room is ridiculously depressing, especially for an infant. I'm all for gray soothing walls, but you definitely need some pops of colors around.

People are criticizing the color of this room so much, however people make infant rooms so overstimulating these days just because they see things on pinterest and they look cute. This room is classic and stimulating in the right ways. It is colorful, as the color pops off of the walls, with the contrasting black and white rug. The chair is yellow, there's pops of blue and red all over in the mobile, the frames, the books, the mirror. Why yes, the color of the walls are gray, I think the color popping is much more flattering and calming than shoving a baby in a circus room.

If I saw number 2 I would assume the people who lived there were from an either goth or punk scene... Even if they still chose a "darker" color as a trim with the black, it would look more planned and not like it had been spontaneously spray painted
