One thing I notice about the design concept mentioned above, the microwave takes up the same space on the counter, but just removes the swing out door. Neat idea, but still doesn't solve your counter space problem.
Have you thought about installing a microwave above the counter/under the cabinet off the surface of the counter? That might help.
Also, I've been debating on whether we need to get rid of our microwave simply because we don't use it as often. What reasons are making you want to get one again?

Thank you for this tip! We have generally gotten our asparagus from the local produce stand, but never from the farmer's market. We'll have to try it next time.

My wife did this one time, but dipped strawberries and blueberries in the yogurt and froze them all together. It was a great spring day treat.

When I lived alone, I hand-washed everything unless I let some dishes pile up for some reason (company, pot-luck, lazy...). I happened to marry a woman who never lived without a dishwasher and can't imagine living without one. I could live very happily without one. No issues with spots, crusted on leftovers, or buying extra detergent for a single use object. I could use the extra cabinet space. We did have a home trash compactor in our house as a child, and that was worth the space.

My uncle is taking some wine classes at our state uni and the professor told him that White Wine will take out the Red Wine. Something about the tannins... I was enjoying a glass while he was talking, so it didn't seem important. Said to just keep a bottle of basic cheap house white wine just for the occasion.

I've done this for garlic toast while at work. We don't have a regular toaster oven (not sure why) so I turned the toaster on the side and made some impromptu garlic toast. People stared at me like I was a freak... until they smelled the garlic and saw my home-made lasagna... :-D

I use a small combination of websites and services. Allrecipe, evernote, and pearltrees. Each has it's own use and this seems to serve me very well.
Allrecipes.com: nice website to search recipes according to ingredients I have
Evernote: Store recipes and scans from parents/friends/etc without much hassle
Pearltrees.com: Easy way to organize website recipes until I can get them into Evernote

Evernote is blocked at my work and Allrecipes doesn't have a great way to enter recipes quickly. The usage of these three is awesome.

We generally only serve coffee well before the meal and/or right after. Big coffee drinkers down in the South.

The main problem is that your freezer is probably one of the Frost Free freezers. It periodically goes through a defrost cycle to keep the freezer from building up that large layer of ice inside that we remember from our childhood. This melts your store-bought ice a little and re-freezes it into a fun block of joy. Your best bet is to store your ice in a freezer that does have this feature, or buy enough ice to only last a couple of days at most so the defrost cycle doesn't affect you that much.

Definitely a fan of weighing flour. I invested in a small $20 scale and it had served me very well. It's not all that accurate, but it really doesn't need to be for the decent amount of meats and flour I measure.

"Don't feed the animals" That made me giggle a little. We used to say something similar about people who sit at a restaurant after it has closed. Stop filling their drinks and start to sweep and mop around them and they start to get the picture really quick.

You can always avoid this by having a set time on your party. "Party at my place: March 22 5PM - 12AM" Some people will remember the time and start leaving. The rest go with the herd mentality. The lingering ones can be told that the party is over and you don't have to feel bad.

We've always just bought those cheap multi-colored toothpicks and let people know what color represents what. Red = rare; orange = med-rare... etc. I think they go for about $0.99 at your local grocery.

My wife takes the clementine and orange rinds and infuses the vinegar that we clean with. Cuts the smell significantly.

She just puts the rinds in a jar with enough vinegar to cover. She lets it sit for a few days and then pours the vinegar into a spray bottle.

My wife and I aren't vegetarians, but sometimes like to switch up dinner so it's not so meat or carb centric. We use Spaghetti Squash as a great alternative to rice or pasta. The buttery flavor adds to anything we are cooking

I've wondered this for a long time. I've always just cooked the bacon last so it's nice a crisp and hot when served. I'd have to try it, but maybe something similar to how I keep pancakes and waffles warm. I turn my oven on 200 for about 3 minutes to get it warm and turn it back off. Should stay warm for a while. Not sure this will keep the bacon crisp though. I'll have to try it next time.

I'm a recent convert to the drip method, but have always loved the French Press for its sheer elegance. Luckily they can both hold a coveted place on my counter next to my electric kettle. Not sure why I have to choose one over the other.

Why can't coffee snobs see the beauty in each brewing method? Diversity in each step is what drew me into the coffee scene and why I stay. So many different types and styles of coffee and we learn more each year. Celebrate the differences instead of fighting over the details.
