What a cozy, little, rental kitchen. I want to brew a coffee and sit reading a magazine, while being bathed in light at the kitchen table.

I swear by my Breville blender. They have a range of price points. All the blenders are heavy duty:

I store mine flat, on a magnetic strip.

Here's my opinion on storage in a block: blade pointing down.

Why? Gravity...the handle is heavier than the blade so the blade won't rest as heavily on the wood and get dull when it is pointing down. When the blade is pointing upwards, the handle will be lower than the blade and it will push against the wood.

Just my opinion.

Liberté's Mediterranean style yogurt is the ABSOLUTE BEST yogurt on the planet. My personal fave is the lemon.

Yikes...you are calling circa 1970 cookbooks vintage!

The books pictured are mostly reference books, which were accompanied by smaller, coil-bound cookbooks, which I do use.

The best duo is the Middle Eastern Cooking. The felafel and the tabbouleh recipes in that cookbook are golden.

I picked about 24 pounds of blueberries once. Here's the best tip I know of for blueberry picking:

My faves are rice crackers. Yeah, I know they are salty but I like the texture & flavour. Saltines (do you detect a trend) are my all purpose cracker.

Victorian style is just too fussy & messy for my taste.

I like the look but hate the dusting involved in displaying items in the kitchen. Kitchen dust is stickier and takes more effort to remove.

The marketers are changing the colours on us again!

Haven't they heard that people are tightening their belts?

I predict a vast, unbought inventory of accessories clogging up store warehouses this year.

If we've already got an item, it's doubtful that the ordinary people will be running out to replace it so that our cupboards will be in fashion.

An odious task, at best. Procrastination makes it even worse because you are living it in your thoughts until it is done. I've found the most stress reducing strategy is just to buckle down & do it.

Cream of wheat with milk and a teaspoon of sugar is second only to custard as comfort food.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of your help! LOVE your ideas.

Yes, I will ditch the exercycle and lose the storage area behind the tomato plant (wood divider). The idea of the roll-down blind instead of the umbrella is inspired.

You KNOW a bench/love seat will be residing on that deck as soon as it warms up. It's such an obvious choice!

I'm also going to work in as many of the other suggestions as possible. I'm a lousy gardener so I can't vouch on the safety of more plants :)

I'm betting that anyone who does this will be purchasing another countertop in 6 months due to the paint becoming irrevocably damaged. The author mentions using a cutting board but there are other things like chemical interactions, water damage, and normal wear & tear that will affect the finish.
