Some furniture is *hugely* bulky - I'm thinking easychairs and sofas. If you have a small room, avoid these. They will leave you no floor space. Heavy/solid furniture doesn't have to look or be gigantic. Comfy furniture doesn't have to be enormous.

Agree with Khat - an empty shelf is a wonderful thing! :D

These are good ideas. :)

I had a small apartment with white walls and shinyl vinyl floors. :( Put down one oriental rug and bought pumpkin orange (unlined) drapes for the sliding doors (which were the living room windows. Boom, sunlight made the room golden! :) Nights I had one orange wall, and if I turned on the exterior light on the patio it gave a pale imitation of the sunlight. Any other color was simple and very cheap to add - plants, pillows, a throw, books.

The bedroom was dark, which was ok with me, easier to sleep in.

Very nice! Good to see such variety and individuality. Love the window-fence. :) Like how you've picked up the panelled-wall browns and how well that goes with all the green of the plants in this house.

Gosh, I've been ripped off! :( $1200 to remove a tree that could not be reached by truck at all. It took two long days for two men to get the monster down. It was near enough to my house that every limb had to be lowered carefully with ropes and the trunk taken down in sections.

I kept the wood for the woodstove and mulch for the garden. No, the trunk was not ground away.

We're talking NC here, in the US.

That's too much for me. Although "before" is dull, I think I'd prefer it on a daily basis. I'd certainly have ditched the valances though! :)

Perhaps it's because I'm not a "blue" person?

If you can afford these nice boxes, you can probably afford someone else to do your dusting. Gee whiz. (... says the person with two glass (thrift shop) containers of sea shells ...) Sometimes I just need to step back and laugh at myself.

I like the *idea* of the half-wall - but it's not finished as I would do it. Hanging plants...

Not a fan of words or letters as art, but to each his own. ;) The wallpaper could be a challenge for me to work with. Probably much better in person. The Trompe l'Oeil "carved door" is marvelous! Just Wow!

Looks nice and seems to have worked out well. Hope you're able to keep it so nice - but catchall places tend to get filled up over time ... so I presume you have a new catchall place now? ;)

Shoes as decoration remind me of an old Metropolitan Museum of Art Christmas catalog - all the fancy shoe ornaments.

Not for me. My shoes will spend their non-working hours on a shoe rack in my closet. ;)

Terribly disappointing to have your original plan fail after all that work - don't know what I would have done then.

Glad you are happy with them, they look a good size and shape, useful pieces.

Oh my, I'm among friends! :) No booze, no soft drinks, no ice cubes; old furniture, handmedowns. No sofa, no coffee table, no big guest rooms, very few guests - only those I love to see. My quiet place, my refuge, my retreat. Those I love say it feels like "coming home" or makes them think of their grandma's home - in a positive loving way, because they realize they miss that. Probably the musty smell of old books, truth be known.... ;)

Of course there are things that need fixing or changing, that's why I'm here on AT! Harvesting good ideas. :) Like new flower arrangements every Friday!
