I have the light aqua-colored Spectrum rug, and it does shed -- we get lima-bean-sized balls of wool accumulating on top of it if we don't vacuum it once a week. However, we have had ours since August and the shedding is starting to taper off.

It might be good to note that we have a dog that really enjoys racing around the carpet like he's doing time trials, so that might encourage more shedding than usual.

I'd give it a 7 on comfort. It's very pleasant underfoot, soft and a little springy, but it's not decadently comfy. I don't dream about walking all over it in bare feet or anything like that.

I adore the use of color -- the color in the dining area really feels like the "right" color for that space, it just clicks -- but I'm really over the moon over the photography on the walls! Great space!

I purchased a gold/cream version of this after seeing the pink one in Domino about a year ago. I never got around to hanging it (couldn't find the right place for it) and now that I have a new house to decorate, it has become rather ubiquitous and has made me question whether I should invest in the frame I was going to buy (a swirly, rococo-type cream one!) and hang it.

On the other hand, I still love it to death, so I think I'm gonna go for it.

Suburban Life has really lead the change on the Spindle story (they're the ones who broke the story in the first place), so if you're looking for all details great and small related to the Spindle coming down, that's probably the best place to look. Unfortunately right now they don't have all the stories grouped on a central "Spindle" page and individual stories don't link to other related ones but, uh ... I'm married to someone who has the ability to make that happen, and I've alerted him to the oversight :)

KristinaXI -- I knew the black/white/red color combo reminded me of books from my childhood, but I couldn't remember if it was Babysitter's Club or Sleepover Friends! Good call on that one :)

I vote for orange as well.

Good Questions: Painting the Coffee Table

I Yelp! It's my go-to source for pretty much everything in Chicago. The reviews tend to be decently written and include the kind of information food write-ups in newspapers often lack -- how noisy it is, whether parking is doable, the size of the menu, etc. It's also a great resource for other goods and services -- I've used it to find a moving company and a new hairstylist in the last month. The only downside -- and this can be found on any food forum -- is that there is a bit of groupthink going on. The people who spend all their time reviewing often go out together, probably because they have similar tastes. But even with the mild groupthink, it's a fantastic resource.

I'm getting ready for a short-distance (five blocks) move as well, so I've been doing this research. I think we're going to go with The Professionals -- their reputation on Yelp is pretty impressive, and their rates seem reasonable.

I think this table from Room and Board would work well with the dresser/buffet. Its lines mirror those of the buffet and it has the same mid-century-but-slightly-zen feel. The finish is lighter and a bit more yellow, but I think they'd go well together. You could pair it with simple contemporary chairs, vintage mid-century ones or ones with a blended style like this -- I like how the rattan gives it a British Colonial feel.

chicagores07 -- you may want to look into whether Amy Lenahan with Design I Interiors offers the kind of help your looking for. Her pricing is very clear-cut and reasonable. We just did a design consult with her (two hours, $300) and for the amount of information/advice/recommendations we received from her, it was a bargain. We're getting ready to move into a new space in August, so we wanted her to help us resolve the big issues (color palette, floor plan) but we loved her so much that we'll probably have her back once we've been in the place for a while to get her recommendations on specific issues we'll inevitably encounter.

Her website provides basic information but she's more than happy to give you more detail as to what you can expect from her based on the package you've chosen. She's also pretty flexible about the packages -- if they don't fit your needs, she can work with you to come up with something that will.

Not sure what your timeline is, but I do believe she's taking maternity leave some time in July.

Re: the heaviness/bulkiness of the couch -- I take my cue from the couch's legs and armrests. When it has the really low, thick legs like this one, the armrests tend to be thicker as well, and that makes it feel bulky to me. Couches perched on thinner and/or higher legs have thinner armrests and tend to look "lighter". This might be too modern for you, and here's hoping it comes in a different color, but this would be a "lighter" option.

Oh, and about the rug -- the more pieces of furniture that touch the rug (even if it's just one of the front legs), the larger the space will feel. I'd move it down/away from the wall with the doors so that just the front foot of the chair is on it, but I'd do what I could to make sure the front of the couch and front of the credenza touch it as well.

I agree -- the couch does look a bit heavy/bulky for the room. What about the this one from IKEA? Not sure if that would be out of your price range or not, but we bought our IKEA sofabed four years ago and it's held up beautifully -- the bed is actually kinda comfy.

For paint color, I think you'd probably want to go with something a little bit deeper in order for the paint job to be worth the effort. Maybe Benjamin Moore Concord Ivory if you're trying to build in a brighter direction from the office color, or Bennington Gray for a richer combo? I can't tell how much light the room gets, but if it gets even a moderate amount of natural light, those pale-to-medium gold tones can look pretty washed out.

I think I'd keep the door white. You won't really be able to hide it, so might as well acknowledge its existence. Looks like your kitchen appliances are white -- I kinda think keeping it white provide a nice connection to the kitchen.

This is perfect for people who have small outdoor spaces that would be too cluttered by having a table of that size taking up permanent residence. Good find!

I second (third?) the request for the paint used, both in the bedroom and the bathroom. I don't think it's the same color, but the lighting could be throwing me.
