Love the rug. Love the rug.

Don't like the orange pillows directly underneath that painting, too matchy.

But I really love the rug and all the white.

I think it's great you're continuing to pursue your interests while living abroad. I live overseas too, and I find that pursuing my hobbies and interests helps to keep me on an even keel. It's exciting living abroad, but it's also a bit difficult sometimes. Working on a project can bring a lot of personal satisfaction, and having a comfortable apartment to come home to every night feels great.

I think the tiles look fine, but I agree they might look better running straight, not diagonal. I really like the color of your cabinets! Good luck!

I remember when Maya Lin won the competition for the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial. It was a hugely controversial choice and I was in awe of her because she was so unbelievably young and forced to defend her vision in the face of so much opposition, thrusting her from obscurity into the middle of the public controversy over her work. And just look at how popular the Memorial became, and how the design drew viewers in, and allowed such a personal, tactile connection.

I have one child who has never liked breakfast food, so he has dinner leftovers for breakfast. Spaghetti with meat sauce or chicken tacos at 7 a.m. doesn't look appetizing to me, but eating a protein-rich breakfast is a good way to stave off hunger till lunchtime.

That's pretty funny. The website that routinely applauds hipsters who discard their old kitchens for new ones is now lecturing us on "unnecessary and wasteful" banana covers.

I love them with any bland food--macaroni and cheese, pureed soups or bean soups, poached chicken. My kids don't like eating hot peppers, but they like the spicy pickle juice dribbled onto mac&cheese, for instance.

If you have brown rice, cooked sweet potatoes and cooked squash on hand, they are so great added to a green salad w/balsamic dressing.

I hang it inside. Everything comes out stiff and creased and I hate it. Tumble dryers are the best.

Our Samsung washing machine plays a little song when the cycle is over. It's really cute at first, but the tune has become an earworm and I can't get it out of my head.

My mother does this. I didn't realize other people did it too. She also does it with water glasses, especially when there are lots of extended family visiting. Everybody gets a wooden clothespin with their name on it, and you stick it on your glass when you're done. That way, you don't have to wash a glass every time someone gets a drink of water.

I can only see it working well in a large bathroom with a very well-designed floor & drain, so the entire bathroom floor doesn't get wet. It's annoying having to put on plastic shoes every time you need to go into the bathroom. But it does look good, especially if you dispense with the shower curtain.

I don't like the way hanging pots look, all messy, jumbled up and clangy looking. I'm not sure hanging the pots really "saves room" because they take up so much visual room, hovering in huge masses like an amateur Gehry kitchen installation. Admittedly, hanging pot racks are popular and considering them an eyesore and a sensory nightmare puts me in the minority. I always wonder whether people ever drop pots while getting them off the hanger?

Love the tile & color.

Shower rooms are common in Korea, where I live, but I wouldn't exactly call them popular. I find them pretty inconvenient and water gets everywhere. You need to keep rubber slippers in there for when you go in just to use the toilet or sink.

I do like the open look, but a shower pan and partial glass wall would be minimalist and still contain the water.

Great looking room, though.
