I've kept a baking sheet for probably 47 years, the age of my son. Who remarks everytime he sees it.."is that the same cookie sheet you had when I was young?" and I always answer yes, and we chuckle. There are many objects in my kitchen dating way way back, including a vegetable peeler that was my mother's. I love them all. In Praise of Battered Baking Sheets |

Serene and lovely. I recognize the building from the balcony photo...I lived there in years spanning 1960-1963 in two different apartments (I imagine it is no longer rental). Great old building. John Douglas Eason's Past Life Apartment House Tour |

St. Louis is home to the Kraus House, a FLW Usonian home built in the 1950s. You can visit it.....here's the website http://www.ebsworthpark.org/. The website contains the history of it's construction...which was quite contentious and exhausting. But it is a treasure to visit, and still has the original furnishings and fabrics. And the only parallelogram shaped bed I've ever seen! I'm not sure the owners ever slept in it. Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian Houses American Style |

I lived in Greenwich Village from 1968-1975, and have fond memories of one wall in the living room painted purple and green..and hung an orange painting (I found on the street) on the green side. Tiny place, with a shower in the kitchen. Had fun painting all the trim and exposed pipes in the kitchen acid green and bright pink (Betsy Johnson colors). I live in the midwest now, and have refined the bohemian style in a very personal way. Couldn't afford them then, but now have Turkish kilms, along with great doorway hangings from Turkey, Morocco and India. Never did like the Flotaki rugs. But will always love the Bohemian influence. I love this, such a good contrast with the soft but controlled bedroom decor. Feels light and airy. Years ago I did something like this, painted a ceiling a teal green, and one wall a chinese red, but left a whispy edge so that the red did not quite meet the green, and the white of the other walls peaked through. It was a place of "contemplation". Perfectly Imperfect Decorative Paint Treatment Design Dare |

These tenament apartments were built to house the thousands of immigrants coming through Ellis Island at the turn of the 20th C. Showers and tubs in the kitchen saved on space, and rooms were very small. Luxury was having your own WC, often it was shared in the hall. I lived in an apartment like this on Thompson St. for years and loved the shower in the kitchen, which was hidden behind a bookshelf on wheels. This place is a wonderful example of creative problem solving, and I especially love the kitchen. Apartment Therapy New York | Small Cool 2009: Alex & Corey's Pre-War Tenement Tiny Division #07 |
