haha, never mind my question as to the wallpaper being on one wall or all walls. i just saw the reflection in the bedroom mirror, which answers my question. still interested in those shelves though...

great place, one of my favorites thus far. not very original to say by now, but that wallpaper is awesome. is it only on one wall of the bedroom or all the walls? also, where did you get those shelves above the desk?

wow, the space and views are both amazing. i appreciate the layout and use of space so it remains uncluttered and airy. i like the built-ins on the sofa so you can avoid using a coffee table, and with the ottoman, you've got space to kick up your feet, so that's enough. sure, it's really, really clean, way cleaner than most of us would be able to maintain on a daily basis, so more power to you if you can maintain the place at that level of order on a consistent basis. it does feel a little cold, but that's really a question of taste. i like it, but i hear the comments about it feeling a little like a hotel, but at least it would be a well-designed and unique hotel, and not some crate and barrel/pottery barn hotel. :) maybe it also feels a little colder because the photos were taken to sell the place? good real estate photos always leave the impression of a blank slate, and that's evident here. but man, that view, c'est pas mal, pas mal du tout...

I remember a post (maybe it was a house tour?) where the owner had done his entire office (desk shelves) with plumbing pipes and wood planks like here. Does anyone remember that post? I'm hoping someone can point me towards the page here on apartment therapy. Thanks.

If you're willing to travel a little, the town of Essex in Eastern Mass near the sea has some great antique stores: http://www.essexada.com/. I know that Spindler Antiques in Essex does have some 20th century pieces. Make sure to grab some seafood in Essex if you do visit there, as there are some famous spots there. North of Essex, the town of Newburyport also has some cool antique and furniture/home decor stores. Newburyport is a very pretty town on the water with good places to eat, and makes an excellent day trip.

Hi. Thanks for all the suggestions so far, and I love that so many people suggest keeping the wall. I was hoping to see some good points and counterpoints, and you haven't disappointed so far!

We are definitely leaning towards a gray color for the walls, we just have to find one that works for us, and it seems that grays are rather notoriously difficult to choose. We do like the gray on the wall in the first pic posted above by Tex. We also like the gray used in this apartment, which is "benjamin moore barren plain" I believe:

Regarding the idea of knocking down the wall, we feel it gives the place a more open feel (literally) and also we have a hard time seeing how we can fit a sectional in the living room in its current state without having the back of one of the sides cutting off most of the doorway. Removing the wall would give us more flexibility in the size of the sectional, as we would no longer have to worry about cutting off the existing doorway. If we knocked down the wall, who ever is sitting on the sectional would also be able just to turn their head to see and talk to someone in the dining room or kitchen, which would be cool. One idea we have been considering is just to knock down the section of the wall farthest from the kitchen (to the right in the photo of the living room). The rational behind this would be that we can have the sectional we want, open up the space a bit, but still have a separation between the kitchen and the living room.

As for the dining table, if only R&B made that table in an extending version... /sigh
