Plastic is the future. I hate wood.

Don't get the ikea saarinen knock off...I had it for a few weeks and it was so wiggly it drove me bonkers! I sold it on craigslist and managed to get a burke saarinen knock off which is super duper sturdy.

I, like calamityayne was a Winnipeger. Ikea was almost a status symbol, but I doubt for long as Winnipeg will soon be getting one. I furnished my first home almost exclusively with Ikea prompting oohs and aahs from friends, and at the time "Your house looks like the Ikea showroom!" was a compliment to me! I don't think that Winnipeggers liked Ikea solely for price point (although they do LOVE a bargain) I think was modern design at affordable prices that was the attraction. (and the flat shipping rates)

I moved to Toronto recently, and while I have many pieces from Ikea, it just doesn't seem that special any more. I am slowly weeding them out, or hacking them into different configurations and mixing them with vintage 60s and 70s pieces.

My point I guess is that it all depends on where you live and how accessible Ikea is. I really love the idea of the Indian knock offs! I bet their Ikea furniture will be around much longer that the genuine items! I wish I had gotten a carpenter to knock off some of my ikea stuff, as a lot of it has bowed under the weight of books and storage containers.

Every time I see the Drapers' home on Mad Men I cringe and think that it's supposed to be an example of what went wrong with mid century decor. Realistic, but not pretty! I want to barf every time I see that ugly headboard! It's no wonder Don spends so much time at the office!

Besides looking uncomfortable, it just makes me think of Wile E. Coyote sitting on it and somehow ending up flat as a pancake.

If this were an Ikea product I am certain that a good number of people commenting that this is such a wonderful design would be saying "ugh Ikea, not again!".

Eames designs are nearly as ubiquitous as Ikea, the only difference being you might pay $20 for a coat rack at Ikea and $180 for an Eames coat rack, which is simply ridiculous.

I love to play "While you were out" with my boyfriend! Just last week I repainted his office area, installed new lighting and artwork, reorganised all his cables and power bars and staged his whole office zone...all during his work day! He was so surprised and touched that he started welling up. When you have somebody that appreciates that so much, it really makes it worth it! I've previously done the same with out kitchen and bathroom!

I have to agree with colouring, it does look unfinished. I think there is a difference between empty and minimalist. I think it's on it's way though.
