Off the Rack and Into the Home: Seersucker

Termites can swarm as spring and summer set in. I'm from Louisiana where we have termite issues down to a science:

Finding termites in your home doesn't mean your home is infested - your home may be in the path of their migration. Termites swarm just after sunset for about an hour and will be very attracted to the light emanating from your home. They will come in through any crack they can find, so make sure your windows and doors are weathertight. Limit light in the house (we just go to bed early for those few weeks) and/or set up a bright spotlight outdoors to lure them away.

Hope this helps!

I just have to share - my brother put a very similar set of stickers all over his bedroom dresser when he was younger! Nice to see an old memory today, thanks AT.

I think for your everyday flatware, this is a great idea, and yes, removable storage so you could clean the drawer would be a must. But ever since I waited tables after college, I have kept my everyday stuff upright on the counter - it's just so much easier! Keep grandma's real stuff in the silver chest.

LOVE the yellow ceiling and how you didn't paint over the wood - it goes wonderfully with the finishes you chose. Well done.

Other options: If the mirror is big enough to anchor between two studs, you can use a 'french cleat', or you could hang it from the picture molding which is often found in plaster-walled homes (if you have that).

It's not "home" unless it's easy for me to live in the space. That means natural light and functional organization, flowers, and being able to entertain.

Tulips, peonies, gladiolus, hydrangea...I am truly a southern Girl! I also second "what's cheapest". Five dollars once a week at the grocery store can't hurt your budget that much to bring such beauty into the home!

Garlic works as an antifungal, so I make a mixture of leftover coffee grinds (which adds nitrogen to the soil, for those who were asking) and mashed garlic on the stove, watered down of course. It also keeps away the neighborhood cats from my little outdoor bed! I keep the leftover mixture til I need it for next time, as the garlic needs to be re-applied every few days to be effective against cats and fungi.

I love the mondrian/blown-up-pictures ideas! Also, are you absolutely sure you can't paint? My landlord doesn't care if I make small changes that improve the space...and I decided long ago that I would gladly forfeit the security deposit to be comfortable in my temporary home.

And I completely disagree with Kittn... as long as you stick to a limited palette of colors and vary the scale of your patterns, they will not clash. Pick what you like and remember that decorating is like life...It's not that serious! PS love the grey and white panels.

I forgot to say how much I DO like the changes that were made - great job! Have you thought about installing wall-mounted lamps? Your space is perfect for it.

Also would like to see those side tables in a bright contrasting color...Why is there no art on the empty wall? Also I think the reason the room looks so small is the lens used on the camera, and the angle from which the picture was taken.

My boyfriend and I are close to becoming engaged, and we have discussed having separate rooms when we marry. Throughout our relationship we have enjoyed spending the night at each other's place; why not continue that into marriage? I don't give a flip what other people think about the proposed arrangement. What will work for us is what will keep us happy, and what makes us happy is what will keep us together.

Sleeping Style: Twin Beds

Is it possible to center the bed on the wall, and then fake a window on the other side (with *opaque* drapes)? Then all you would need is one piece of art that truly speaks to you or has personal meaning, hung above the bed. Don't totally get rid of the bedding, just work with it, layering some more pieces.
