I made this last night and it was GREAT. I had never thought to de-skin my sausage before cooking it, and I've also never tried the toasted bread crumbs trick. I made mine a little spicier with red pepper flakes and a dash of my favorite hot sauce, but overall, it was wonderful. I will certainly be making this again.

Hmm... I like the change in countertops and knobs, but can we acknowledge that a lot of the transformation was just her cleaning up her kitchen? It looked like she took the first photo midway through making dinner to make it more dramatic.

@ picantel - You should try making "Chow" some time. My husband is from Trinidad and they make Chow out of Pinapple or Green Mango and place Garlic, Cilatro, Lemon, A little hot pepper dices up and some salt. It's WONDERFU. Very fresh and savory!

Boy do I know your problem! I live in a communal house with my husband and two friends and we also go by the "yellow let it mellow" montra. My suggestion is to only let it mellow for 3 rounds, otherwise it starts to get extremely stinky. As far as cleaning, I clean the toillet on a weekly bases and use the 7th generation cleaning supplies. Good luck!

I'm really curious to see how people respond! I have a similar situation with a couch and two chairs that I've inherited from my grand parents. They have the same beautiful wood, but a really terrible plaid from the 60's as the upholstery. Please help both Alex and myself!!

So I'm winding down my day at work while reading this and just got really excited about the combination (and that we have both hot-chocolate mix and peppermint tea in the break room) I hope you're all right and this is as good as it sounds!!

I don't get it.... if your "rich" and choose to live like that, it's fashionable... but if you were "poor", people would probably say your living in squalor...

weird.

Step ladders make great bedside tables - the little ones with the two steps - especially the older looking ones that are nice and beat up with a ton of character.

I agree with those who feel it's a bit "Early 20's and Single"... It's cute, but I feel like I see a lot of this style. Not very original. Dare I say it looks a bit cheap? I like the bedrooms but the rest of the house leave me kind of bored.

Love the idea of creating your own wall paper... but not really feeling the above design.

I think the comment is a GREAT idea though.

I live in Philadelphia in an area of the city called Kensington. There are tons of empty lots around and instead of going through the city, lots of people have taken to GG.

In lots of circumstances, the land owners have passed, and the people who own the land generally aren't aware that they own it. OR the land is owned by the city, but they are going to make you go through a lot of crap before you can do anything to it. So instead people have decided to take over the plots and by the time the city catches on, the neighborhood is soo attached, that they will fight tooth and nail to keep the little farm area...

I wouldn't suggest putting any food plants into the soil though. I would save those for the raised beds. And a soil test would be good either way to see what fertilizers you may need for your flowers.

I would also see if there are any community development committees in you neighborhood to help you obtain any supplies you may need. Here in Kensington we have the NKCDC and they help LOTS of people obtain the land they want to grow in.

And as far as harming the habitat, it's generally much more beneficial then harmful. There is another Non Profit in Philly called Circle Venture which hosts an Urban Farm Team and they work to help locals understand farming and the importance of fresh fruits and veggies. It also has an impact on the local kids in the area too, as the odds of them ever being introduced to such a lifestyle is generally pretty slim. PLUS, you no longer have the eye-sore of an empty and trash filled lot.

I think I could go on forever about the benefits, but I'll stop here. Good luck! and Best wishes! Urban Farming is a GREAT way to help clean up urban/industrial areas.

I think the color combination makes the house stick out like a sore thumb. I can't help but feel there are other colors which could have been used to to brighten it up that didn't remind me so much of clown paint. I agree with a few other people that it just doesn't seem to work with the other houses around it.

In Ireland - yes, quirky coloring makes for a beautiful visual, but in this situation, it's too drastic for the other houses surrounding it.
