A friend of mine screenprinted her own doggy wallpaper, and used her own dogs' silhouettes for it. It's really gorgeous, have a look here: http://www.pollydanger.com/blog/2008/08/20/diy-wallpaper/

Well Jesse Lu, different strokes for different folks. I happen to really like Lisa Congdon's work and I think she's deserving of the acclaim. Why spread so much hate when you can just choose not to view her work? Get over yourself.

well the 'i' this and 'i' that thing comes from our me-centric society.
the iDye sunblocker is something I want to check out. Penetrates clothing to block harmful UV rays from the sun. does that mean sunblock through your clothes? pretty cool

bicoastalmogul: I'm not sure, the hallway wainscot was there when we moved in but I do love it. I used it as the background on my website and blog:

thanks! not in a great way, i'm afraid! there's clearance between the light fixture and the weird ceiling panels so I just stuck the handle in there! there are much better items that are made for that use but I love that parasol, and i never leave the light on while I'm not down there.

Thanks everyone! All the living room furniture is up against one wall for the same reason you can't see any wide angle shots. This is a VERY narrow but very long apartment. The living room is like a long galley and the other side doesn't have any clearance for furniture. It also leaves space for my dogs to run around when they play. I've tried to rearrange to no avail, but if anyone has any ideas for me I love switching things up!
As far as the plant in the teacup goes just be sure to either drill a hole at the bottom or put some rocks down there. I found the inexpensive teacup at Urban Ore in Berkeley!

I also noticed that when we finish a bottle of red wine and leave it open on the counter, they are drawn to it. When I dump the contents out the next morning there are usually 4 or 5 of the little things in there. I like to think they die drunk and happy.

hdtex, my thoughts were right there with yours. I know this particular pet store and it, and all the others like it that i've seen in Manhattan and Brooklyn, absolutely sicken me. Those puppies are left to be under-stimulated and poorly socialized. Go to a shelter or a local reputable breeder, visit http://www.petfinder.com/ and help put these puppy mills out of business!

Lawdesigner,

Great post but I have to chime in here to say I did get bedbug bites on my face. And neck. And shoulders, arms and legs. So it can happen.

We had bedbugs at our place in the west village, it was SUCH a nightmare. I feel her pain. The pest control people told us they can get stuck in your shoe while walking through the hallway, and then you'll carry one in. They reproduce at an alarming rate and can lay dormant in your furniture for months. I had no idea they even existed before I encountered them, I thought it was just a childhood bedtime saying.
