I am also kind of appalled at the convenience to humans tone of this post. I love this site, but animals are NOT decor.
I have a dog and when I need to move, I don't look at apartments on Craig's List without checking dog friendly first. When I decided to get her, I moved to a place that accepted dogs first. You need to commit to your animal first, then worry about your living situation. Pet friendly housing will be the least of your worries when an animal gets sick or has behavioral issues.
I currently live in Chicago and have a fabulous place that is perfectly dog friendly. It is totally possible. But if your priority is not to be inconvenienced by a move, then you are probably better off sticking with humans.

The stick up lights always die on me. I use them in conjunction with a hanging light from Ikea, and just run an extension cord out to the main room. It's a great place to "hide" the ubiquitous Knappa light and creates a really dramatic effect in the long skinny closet.

I LOVE Dipthyique candles and wear their perfumes every day. Unfortunately can't even come close to affording either now that I'm back in school. I also have this one coffee scented candle- can't remember the brand but I got it at Anthropologie a while back - that smells just like fresh black coffee and is great in the kitchen.

Other than that, I hate them all and feel horrible when I get them as gifts. They're the new fruit cake.

There have been studies done where people who try to cover up bad smells with "good" smells inevitably start to associate the bad smell with the "good", and get grossed out by whatever fragrance they were trying to use within a pretty short time span. Once I heard that I stopped putting anything scented in the bathroom...

I actually love the arrangement of the shelves, but... dare I say... not a big fan of the couch. It's very dark and big looking. Maybe it's just the pic. I think the arrangement on the shelves would look great if you had a more streamlined look all together. I tend towards putting lots of things in one space and then having lots of open spaces nearby. Maybe get rid of the framed pics on either side, and move the couch away so you don't have to make more holes. I know in my rental the holes would be really obvious and gross.
