Get some blank nesting dolls like these: http://www.goldencockerel.com/shoprussian.asp?object=store&id=100032 and have the kiddos decorate them. The easiest way would be to use markers. But you could also do a simple tempera paint set-up that would be nicer in my opinion. Or you could try watercolor which is less of a mess than tempera. Love this theme idea! Actually, removing shoes has been scientifically proven to reduce the amount of contaminants in the home. Personally, I had been toying with the idea but after reading about a study done by the EPA (see below) we've instituted the policy in our home. I do feel bad asking guests to do it, but most people are cool with it. "In 1991 the EPA conducted a study called the “Door Mat Study” that measured the amount of lead dust that was in homes. The study found that in homes where there was a doormat at the entrance and where shoes were NOT worn, there was a marked reduction (about 60%) of lead dust and other chemicals in the home. As a mom, I'm all about making things easier and more convenient, but isn't there a point where we begin crossing a line? Although, on the flip-side, I do think there are situations where outsourcing may be better than what the child's parent is capable of providing? I guess this is one of those tricky situations. P.S.
