FYI this website, along with their blog, "a year in bread" has changed my life... i got a kitchenaid for my birthday and this is THE BEST WEBSITE i have found for bread info. lots of pictures, for beginners such as myself, and really excellent variety of recipes. thank you!!

i'm with you, those cabinets are horrendous. if your landlord is game i would agree to the trimming off/prying off the frilly bit on top. painting them for sure, and the taking of the doors idea is interesting. it would open things up a lot. i think the most important thing to do would be to utilize the space ABOVE the cabinets for storage. it looks like you need some!

and yeah, carpet in the kitchen is just grosse to me... if you can't rip it up to put vinyl down (which shouldn't be crazy expensive if it is a small space, there are also peel and stick vinyl tiles that work surprisingly well) then i think the only solution is to just get a giant area rug that you like and go with it... probably one that you can throw in the wash!

but oh my word, $280 is too much for me to spend. i need something pretty graphic, not too flowery. i realize this is probably more of an orange than a red, but i just love the design. any suggestions? fingers crossed for new ikea bedding.....

ok, that gorgeous green adler chair. i've been looking around here because i recently got a great scavanger couch and chair in almost exactly this colour, maybe slightly more mossy/darker. but so close. what would be a good accent wall colour? i'm racking my brain but i think its got to be neutral, which always feels like a defeat to me. :)

moving is the best method for a big purge. whether you *really*need it or not. i'm definitely not a hoarder, if anything i get rid of TOO much, but its just the best way to take stock of what you have if you are forced to pack it up and think about carrying it down 3 flights and back up another 1 steep flight... not to mention packing it into the car.

i like the warmer idea. its a beautiful colour, and you want to compliment it. i would paint a wall chocolate brown (like a rich yummy cup of coffee) and throw in some bright green or orange accents.
