I have travelled extensively through Greece since 1977 & always learned to cook from the ladies whose rooms I rented. I would watch & help them prepare the meals, learn about baking Greek desserts & all this while drinking a lovely local wine or ouzo. That's my kind of cooking school. Love the yard sticks idea. The history behind all those already well worn rulers, provides a glimpse into the past as you ascend the stairs. I have quite a collection of 12" rulers, but that would make for very narrow steps now wouldn't it? Bold Steps: Colorful & Patterned Staircases |

I have made 26 trips to Greece since 1976. On one of those trips I went to the island of Samos & took a days excursion to the other side of the island. Since I intended to return to my room & things that evening, I had nothing with me except my Passport & a few drachmas. When I arrived in this lovely town I asked about the return bus & the answer I got was, "what return bus, not today". OK so I have no clothes, no tooth brush, no hair brush, nothing except the bathing suit under my shorts & T. I wandered about this village & met a man who spoke English & we spent the evening together at dinner, when he said where are staying? I had no room, I told him. He said you will stay with me & I will provide whatever you may need. I stayed 3 days in a beautiful room perched high on a mountain with the sea below & learned how to live without my stuff. I dare say life is more complicated today & I probably wouldn't have had that experience. Apartment Therapy on Trust Homes On The Road |

Don't think anyone noticed this but in the art arrangement, there is a poster that is currently being shown in the NYC subway cars. It is of a train car full of passengers from all walks of life. Also really like the mirror on the kitchen backsplash. Reflection enhances the space. Mary Lee's Life in 300 Square Feet House Tour |

I too just hung drapes in my office with copper pipes. We repurposed them. They formerly were used as the uprights for my chuppah canopy at our wedding. Nearly perfect in length, we used a pipe cutter to cut them exactly. Be sure if you are going to attach a finial, that whatever you use inside the pipe opening is strong enough to support the finial' weight. many finials are quite heavy & may require a little more support. Exactly! The comment above is what I was thinking. I am an Interior Designer & always photograph my client' children's rooms. I do straighten up, put away the messy stuff that collects & stage the room for a photo shoot. Believe me the rooms return to their highly personalized state the moment the photo shoot is over. Almost by magic!! That said, there are a few issues to remark about.... no bedside lamps & nothing on the window to soften the hard edges of the shutters. It should be mentioned that the large round table is probably doing double duty. As a place for art books & display when not used for dining. Pull up all the chairs in the room even when they are different. It makes it more intimate & eclectic. Very soothing room, yet it pops. Designer Details that Add Interest to a Neutral Room |

I like the change from laminate to butcher block, but I agree, the corner upper cabinet looks out of sorts. The side wall of cabinets should have gone into the corner without the corner cabinet. Before & After: Lilly's Laminate to Butcher Block Kitchen Counter Upgrade |

In HOUSE #1, the small animal print rug at the desk, is one which I imported from Greece many, many years ago. They were flokati style with yarn embroidered animals & some had childish letters as per an ABC rug mixed with animals. I disposed of all the rugs through a thrift shop in NYC. I am wondering if the homeowner picked it up in a thrift shop on 3rd Ave. in Manhattan called Vintage Thrift. Ten Tiny Houses |

This is one of the BEST reuses of a crib that I have seen. As a designer of nurseries & children' rooms, I once repurposed 2 cribs(twins) into the headboards for their beds. Used the end rails as the separations between the beds. Would love to post this somewhere if I could. Before & After: Obsolete Crib Makes a Fantastically Functional Set of Shelves |

I always work out the art/photos on the floor first. Better to move them on the floor & not make unnecessary holes in the walls. I also like to leave "room to grow" the wall by not making the far right & left too perfect. This way my client can add to the wall on their own. Art Tip: Hang a Gallery Art Wall on The Floor First |

The problem with saving that magazine that you just can't part with because you may need it one day, is that it gets lost in the mass of all the magazines. Unless there is a system in place to store & save articles, photos, recipes, then it is no better than tossed. As an Interior Designer, I often find myself inspired to save a page because of a sofa, & I will file it under sofas, but what about the fabulous lamp on the table next to the sofa, now that's another file...lighting. So I end up copying the page & now I have two of the same in separate files. The Matter of Magazines: Keep or Toss? |

I like the room & the colors she has used. One area disturbs me. Unless the door next to the low bookcase is rarely or never used, it must hit the bookcase. I know when space is tight we make things work. She may open the door only as wide as she can, hopefully she has a door stopper on the side of the case. I am currently using several shades of grey for two lawyers offices. They happen to be occupied by men, but will be just as wonderful for women too. Mahogany desks, & black accents make these rooms crisp & stunning. Cloud Colors for Interiors: Gray & White |

Kudos to this young woman for using color in unexpected ways. As an Interior Designer I wish those reluctant or scared to use color on their walls, could see these photos. Well done. Love the photo wall. Looks as though she is well travelled as well. Linda's Fashionably Modest Condo House Tour |

Did you say an Interior Designer did this remake? If so, what happened to scale & proportion, layering for the sake of hiding, I could go on & on about what is wrong with this remake. It is this kind of hired an "Interior Designer" that gives the skilled, trained, experienced designers, a hard time getting work today. I suspect this gentleman hired a friend who he thought could pull together his studio. The best aspect of what she did, was give him a "bedroom". Before & After: Small Space, Big Changes The Sweeten |

Stop it already with these delicious, scrumptious pumpkin recipes. I cannot lug home one more can of pumpkin from the market. I can blame at least 5lbs. this week alone from what I have made with pumpkin...it's not exactly the pumpkin' fault, it's the whipped cream, the rum, the pasta, the glazed walnuts! I have all the ingredients needed to make just about all the recipes..now which to make is the dilemma. I think the pumpkin soup with bacon is #1, then the pasta with pumpkin, a close second. I even bought the most delish pumpkin ice cream that is all the exact ingredients in a pie. Made homemade waffles, scoop of pumpkin ice cream, whipped cream(I didn't make) a slight drizzle of maple syrup & a dash of cinnamon. Pumpkingasm!!
