I would second chilling the dough before baking.

I think it partly depends on where one lives. Being residents of a small college town, dinner parties (with or without children) seem to be par for the course given that there are few options (especially student-free zones) for socializing.

my son (20 months) loves to look at books and listen to music... a new story or CD is always a treat.

so fun, my son would definitely make friends with this little one.

these would be a fantastic splash of color for winter meals.

for me, the ultimate comfort food is cantonese jook (aka congee)--thick rice porridge that comes in endless variations (chicken, fish, dried scallops, dried oysters, thousand year old egg, etc.).

we are definitely a hot-sandwich family (how can you beat grilled cheese for lunch on a wintery day?), but unfortuantely our "vintage" sandwich press (a hand me down from my brother's college dorm days) recently suffered a major casualty. the grill and press would help us recover nicely and stylishly from this mini-tragedy. thanks!

i purchased an eames rocker at a deep discount (which is really the only reason we have) when our son was 3 months old. admittedly, it isn't the most comfortable chair (i actually nursed my son quite a bit in the IKEA poang chair which i like b/c the back is much higher) but i've added a couple of pillows--one for my back and one for under my arm/his head, which help a lot. we use the chair every night to give him a bottle before bed. he likes sitting in the eames rocker, too!
