Our best friends have a three year old that comes over with and without his parents from times to time. We have a small apartment but what we did was get a cube shaped nylon box that fits into our book shelves and filled it with matchbox cars, crayons, play dough, sticky slap hands, wind up toys and coloring books.

We showed him where it was and now every time he comes over he goes straight for "His cube" and has even taken to putting everything back before he goes. He actually looks forward to coming over to play with his little treasures he has accumulated and when we have other guests he loves showing them "His" special stuff at our house.

I drink wine but I dilute it with water. I know it sounds weird, I like the taste but I don't like getting buzzed over tuesday spaghetti.

Get a pole, or a ladder, or a tree trimmer.

Or

Get more bags and cover the whole thing in them.

We had the EXACT same issue in our old place.
We painted the walls a light gray, and installed a hanging lamp that created interesting shadows and light on the walls around it. That way it didn't clash with the decor of either room it simply created patterns on the walls.

We had a huge litter problem.
When we moved to our new apartment we thankfully had a small laundry closet. Not really big enough for the litter and both washer and dryer. So we made a large wooden box (about two feet tall) and set the dryer on top of it instead on on the floor. Now the litter boxes are below and that coupled with feline pine litter make the whole thing easy and clean and it doesn't smell at all. We are actually saving space and the dryer runs fine up top! We thought about the robot, but its really not that big a deal to clean and the cats love it. Everything is contained and when we have guests we just close the door!

Living in those would scare the crap out of me. But it looks cool :)

These remind me of another strange dwelling that I recall seeing when I was on my uncles boat off the coast of Santa Barbara. There is (or used to be) a fully functional house floating on a slab of concrete right off the coast. Not a house boat mind you but and actual home in the middle of the ocean. It was at the time condemned and creepy looking but really interesting!
