Gorgeous house tour. I really like how so many items are multi purpose. I am working on "everything in its place." Thanks for sharing! Inspiring...

Sheesh! Some harsh comments! While the decor may not be my personal taste, I have taken inspiration from Jen's home and a few of her DIY projects on her blog. I think you can almost always take, at least, some small inspiration away from seeing somebody's home.
I'm not sure why some of the commenters feel this home isn't worthy of being a house tour. Are house tours supposed to be "finished" projects? (No such thing as "finished" anyway.) Some of my favorite tours are the ones with people who are dealing with the same challenges that I am in my own home.
I do agree with some of the constructive comments - a rug, paint, curtains, more art in the living room and hardwood floors (I'm still saving for mine, too) would be beautiful, but all in good time.
I dig the dark paint in the bedroom and the yellow in the guest room.

Holy shit is right! What a great tour. AND I learned about biting parrots, carnivorous turtles, resilient iguanas... oh, and the under construction giraffe kinda blows my mind.

Yes, called Moravian stars... I bought mine here: http://www.mermaidhut.com/Cat-17-1-68/Moravian_Stars.htm Very easy to change the bulb; one of the panels is hinged to open.

And wow, those tiles are beautiful.

Hey, that's my table! We've had it about a year and it's been great. Sturdy, good size, looks nice, and I love that the leaf stores in the table. Very happy with it. I'm afraid I don't have much to add to the many reviews on World Market's site. I do not have the chairs.

I love the apartment and the photos are great, but ceilings not "ceiling's" and '70s not "70's." Sorry, total pet peeves.

as someone said above, "in stock" doesn't mean available to purchase. if your item is up in the rafters, you're SOL until the store is empty after closing and the employees pull the items down. ikea will ask you to come back then, which, for us, would have been about 8 hours later. (we didn't.)

Anybody know anything about the small chair on the left in the picture?? I've got two chairs that are very similar and have never been able to find out any information.

Just made these and they're awesome! Two Heath bars was just a bit more than 1/2 cup of bits.
Thanks, Amy!

Haha! Actually, I look at the last picture and hear Dori speaking whale in Finding Nemo.

I have the caps and they work well. I don't think this is only an "ancient dishwasher" problem though; mine is only a couple years old. Before I knew about the caps, I looked into replacing the rack and it was nearly the same cost as replacing the entire washer. Haven't tried the paint.

Creepy! And certainly unappetizing.

oh, the laundry in the master closet. I think that would be life changing.
my fantasy, though, would be an entire laundry room with a door directly into the closet.
the rest of the space is lovely as well. congrats.

Have a regular cocktail/dinner/bbq/whatever party with both sexes. I'm not sure why only women are usually subjected to these things. The fact that I have a uterus does not mean I want to talk about babies or parenting or ooh and aah over baby stuff any more than my husband does. That doesn't mean I'm not excited for you.
With presents, keep in mind that the guest(s) of honor may feel awkward opening, oohing, and being watched by the rest of the party and watching someone open baby gifts is pretty boring and takes a lot of time. It seems to only be entertaining for the other moms in the room. Know your audience and guest(s) of honor, I suppose.
Baby shower games are mostly wretched, gross, or asinine. Choose wisely.
That said, I threw a baby shower/large dinner party for a couple, invited both sexes, had alcohol, and the guests of honor got rave feedback from the other guests saying it was the best baby shower they'd attended. We played 3 games: 1) the don't say the word "baby" game (fun, especially after a few drinks, and good for mingling); 2) a baby food taste test in which the couple was blindfolded and had to taste and name the baby food (fun for this couple since they are foodies and delightful to watch); and 3) I had all the guests bring a baby picture of themselves, posted them up, and everyone guessed who was who (good conversation starter).
