Amen on the bar. I lived in an apartment in a building next door to a bar. It had been closed for a few years before I moved in, and the apartment was walking distance to my work, and I loved it. But then the bar opened with new management and people wanting a coversation would leave the bar and come around the back of the apartment building, which put them right at my bedroom window. Waking in the middle of the night to peeing, vomitting, conversation, drug smoking, etc was not fun.

Oh, and the students in the apartment above me. I had to pound on their door at 2 in the morning to ask them to turn down the volume. "Oh, we're studying. Which bothers you more; the television or the stereo". Thankfully they turned down both.

It was the night I woke up to a couple having sex against the wall right next to my bedroom window (I was slightly below grade) was the final blow that led to me buying my first condo in a building with lots of seniors who were relieved that I *wasn't* a 'parties every weekend' type like the guy I bought the condo apartment from.

I *love* the bed alcoves. I rarely use my bedroom if I'm not sleeping, so having the bed in an alcove that is barely larger than the bed sounds perfect. Cozy, even. And it leaves more space for the 'living' area.

My favorite thing at an old workplace was the 'quiet' rooms. They were for: people who need a nap, people who are feeling ill (headaches, etc), pregnant women needing a break. They were just small windowless rooms with lights you could turn off (everywhere else had motion detectors to turn on the lights), a lazyboy recliner and a wool blanket.

So, if you were feeling burnt out during the day (I was an introvert in an open concept office with hip-high dividers) you can go down and close your eyes for a little while. Ten minutes with music on my ipod was usually enough to recharge me for the rest of the day.

And then there's artist studio tours. There are several in driving distance from me, and a number of my pieces come from those. That and craft shows. My art collection may not be looking to be worth big bucks someday, but it's full of pieces that I love and have great memories for.

But personally I think that the one piece of advice on your list that is the only important one is 'buy what you like'

My trick is listening to 'environments' tapes/tracks. Listening to waves washing against a beach and building a mental image of the beach and myself on it lulls me to sleep every time.

An alternative is that there are certain radio voices that act as great white noise. Interesting as the subjects are, listening to an episode of Ideas from CBC Radio will lull me to sleep easily. Of course, then I have to relisten to it during the day to actually follow the content.

Staggered. If the tiles were square, I would say straight, but the straight rectangled just looks a little... off. Not to mention, a lot more difficult to keep the lines perfect.

Last night I picked up a new non-fiction adult book, Princesses Behaving Badly. Stories of real princesses who did things that were considered innapropriate. That might be a fun one for older girls.

In my case, I let my neighbour drag me into running for the condo board. Being on the board gives me lots of reason to talk to people, and for people to come looking for me *grin*

Plus, I am a pet person who does not have pets, so I chat with a lot of dog-walkers in the area. The dogs know me well, and have a tendency to do things like just roll over and present tummy when they see me coming. Sadly, I am better at remembering the dog names (Bosco, Dusty, Gizmo, etc) than their owners.

Personally, I would want colour, but that's me.

But some change, some texture. A throw blanket over the back of the sofa, or maybe change the curtains to something a little less dour, either adding pattern or colour. Right now it's all so... one note.
