I would remove the yellow laminate backsplash, put in some tiles (maybe white hexagon) I think that exposed shelves would look great, but I would remove the one upper cabinet you have and do ALL shelving on top, I would also get a new vent for your stove, some thing like this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50092016

mjr I have to agree! If people like the keep calm and for like ever than so what! I like them both, so what if other people don’t - than you don’t have to put it in your house!

Also I would have to say why is it that people give criticism on this site do they not give any suggestions to fix what they think is wrong, like click212 you do not like the leather chairs with the rest of the area so instead of just criticizing it how about a suggestion on how to make the area not so cold.
