This is just lovely! You could also get the same foundation by cutting 2 square boxes of the same size on the diagonal, then glue together. I'm so glad she posted tutorials on how she made the accessories. Thanks for linking this great blog!

Whoops - correction, the pinless diaper fold is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIIUg9ic7bA&feature=grec_index

the previous video requires a pin. Also, if you do use jersey you probably wouldn't even need 27" squares, as it's quite stretchy.

Hi Eliza, I only just revisited this page and on the off chance you will too, I wanted to tell you that diapering your newborn can be super cheap. Just use flat-fold diapers and a pull-on waterproof pant (like Dappi nylon taffeta, available in cheap 2-packs).
-The usual flat-fold diaper is just one square of cloth 27"x27". You probably already have a bunch in the form of flannel receiving blankets, and if not you can usually find them for $.25-.50 ea. at thrift stores. You can also use flour sacks from Target/Walmart, also super cheap. You can even just cut up old jersey sheets or large clothes (shirts, skirts) if the material is cotton. Jersey doesn't ravel so doesn't require hemming.

-An origami fold might also leave the umbilical free, but will require a pin or snappi. You might be able to just tuck the ends in under the legs, but I don't know. In any case, it should only be a $5-$15 investment, and those flat-folds are one-size.

I like all of these - though the 2 in the first photo look like duck faces to me!

I have bought slipcovered furniture in white and off-white from Ikea. Not what I expected. Like mudmaven, I have trouble pulling the cover off and putting them back on, and the spots never seem to come out - either the fabric married the spot (that would normally come out of other laundry), or the spot would come out but leaving a lighter white spot, or something like that. Get a leather or pleather sofa w/ kids, that's what we did and it's far easier, no regrets.

Ooooh! Cleaning service! Se7en is on the money - tell the mom you want cleaning service! She gets to buy you something indulgent and helpful, and this will free up time (as a dishwasher would), and take up zero space!

Your concern that the humidifier might have reawakened a mold problem makes me wonder if you've possibly had a mold problem all along, but not as obvious as it is now, and being the original cause of your babies congestion. Perhaps you could try sleeping your baby in a carpet free room for a week or so to see if the problem subsides, and if it does, you might need to talk to your landlord about mold. If it's helpful, I had a mold problem in a rental's basement, but the landlord did absolutely nothing - until I invoked the name of "health department." I don't know if the health department would have gotten onto him or not, but it did get the ball rolling, and the cause of the mold fixed.

hrprincessfiona - I've heard that too, but that it's incredibly low. No more toxic than city air, basically. I hear they have plenty health benefits, but there too I wonder how many you have to eat to get the benefits?

Anyone tried boiling aluminum w/ the apple peels to tell me if it works? I usually eat my peel, but would be willing to cut them off if to do this if it works.

"I really question the "fear of litigation" excuse. Can anyone name one case in which a parent was sued because s/he accidentally served a cupcake to someone who had an undisclosed allergy?"

There is a first time for any type of lawsuit. Like idiots suing Burger King becuase he got fat easing it 2x a day. There's no level to which our culture can't sink.

And it's exactly this talk of "it's *immoral* to exclude someone from a private event in a private home paid for by private finances" that makes me uneasy and less doubtful of litigious parents. I mean, it's better to cancel the party for all children because one isn't invited? That's outrageous.

I think if you're really friends, or your children are, the allergenic person will be accomdated to. Be thankful you get a chance to know who your friends are.

"But you also have to look at it from another perspective. Some parents aren't so nice about their kid's allergies or food preferences. And some of those parents wouldn't mind to sue a parent who accidentally served a cupcake that make have had ingredients processed in a plant that also processes nuts." QueenoftheFall

Absolutely! If you're just having a little get-together w/ 5 friends who's parents you know and trust, that's one thing. But if you are having over 15 kids who's parents you may or may not know well, it's dicey. Easier and cheaper to exclude than risk litigation.
Vicim mentality is culturally too pervasive, and too many parents bristling to get up-in-arms.

That said, there is an alternative:
Ask the parents of the allergenic child to bring child over at a seperate time: after food but in time for the games and prizes.

I made her shades for my living rooom. If you save some of the leftover slats you can make alternate shades to slide on when you want to change the look of the room a bit.

Are those shades a la Little Green Notebook? Or were they bought special? It's a very sweet room.

Mmead should get his/her own post. Who cares what that someone won't pay a mark up on Craig's list? I guess they don't shop at grocery stores, tech counters, buy new undies, etc, either? If you can make a profit here and there on top of your usual employment, maybe you wouldn't be in such dire straights. You want to know how to make a profit? Buy low, sell high.

Bklyn M - if you just want a portion, just use white paint and a magic marker. It's just a lot of concentric squares. And I think it would be kind of fun too.

I'm with Wand3rlust! This chair was one more lazy owner away from a landfill. Well done, Adams! What's $10K "loss" to a chair that was almost trashed? You purists should just be trying harder to find these things before us troublemakers (I say affectionately). Again, we're talking about furniture that's one more owner away from the landfill.

Pureevil, do you have a photo online of that couch you decapitated? I'd love to see.
