I literally have over 10 purses that I am not currently using. Some are brand new, some are gently used. I once tried displaying them all on the wall, but just didn't work. It is tacky and straps do wear out as @smariel and @pestle suggested. My perfect solution these days? I got a couple of big wooden baskets and put them all in there.
