I agree with katepk--what about making popcorn in a pot? Hooray for banishing unitaskers from your kitchen, but this might be one you should retire.

Particularly because I'd be careful about cooking more than popcorn in that thing. It's usually just cheap aluminum and the leaching can be harmful to your health. Those poppers probably aren't meant for constant use like what you propose.

I've switched out even cooking with nonstick pans because of the potential harms.

Sooooo, I think get rid of popper and replace with a good pot of similar size. I make delicious popcorn in mine!

i have a landline and i'm not getting rid of it because of emergencies. during power outages nothing else works! it has saved my butt more than once and others in my complex came to my apartment to use the landline.

plus, how else can we escape the matrix?

I would also recommend getting good window locks. There are more break-ins when scaffolding is up because people can easily get through windows. It, of course, helps if you keep your curtains closed during the day so people don't know what you have in the daytime. Kinda paranoid, but I know two separate incidents of friends who had stuff stolen with scaffolding-window burglaries.

I agree that the comments about being cruel to children are offensive. It's very US-centric of us to fetishize space and waste. It's that kind of thinking that have gotten us into this mess of an environment in the first place.

I think this space is clever, efficient, warm, beautiful and full of love. Kudos!

it still looks a bit cluttered to me. the thing with the armoire is you could close the doors to everything. the "after" organizes your arts stuff but your computer and accessories still make it look messy...

I concur. Way too impractical. Regardless, I do think that too much stuff is on the dresser. This would assume that the same level of "stuff" is on other things in the room. Because as a focal point, it can look too piled on. Maybe he should have shown the dresser in context to be more useful?

I like your apartment, even if it doesn't look overly manicured or staged. I, for one, appreciated the dish towel.

I *would*, however, fix those wires around your desk. They are a bit unsightly, even if you have a relaxed feel to the place.

I love the artwork on the walls!

I just covered mine with a tapestry. I didn't like the trunky look anymore. You can tuck (think hospital corners) the tapestry in a way that doesn't look too college dormy/tablecloth like and the stuff you're storing in it is still accessible.

You can also just make a new slipcover over it; then you don't have to re-tuck each time you take something out.
