If you don't sew, curtains can easily be made from blocks of fabric, iron-on hem stuff, and curtain clips. Though the customer service is, um, basic, Sew-fisticated has come really affordable decorator fabrics.

I agree with both Loora and Minu. Get rid of some of your furniture! And swing the couch around. Ideally get a smaller couch, or one that's more low profile. Good luck!

I would try Maduro in Boston. You'll pay a pretty penny... but they probably have the closest to what you're looking for.

Good luck!

As a fellow Casey, of course I'm going to favorite your place. :-) Adore the navy walls, and add me to the fan list for the faux-coral lamp! I recently upgrade from 452 sq ft to 1,000 and still am getting used to all of the space!

I'm in the love-it camp too!

I actually bought a used over-sized Curious George book for $10 from which I framed two pages as a baby gift for my sister-in-law. The only sad thing is that you have to sacrifice the backside of the framed object (at least if it's professionally framed).

This art is less juvenile than Curious George, and I think it works well!

What about curtains or a valence with a subtle pattern? And accent pillows for the couch, perhaps in the same pattern.

Sage green is a good accent color for those people who don't like bright colors. I also like the idea of an area rug - easy to change up!

I had a very similar apartment to yours, only in Malden, MA and a teeny bit bigger because the kitchen was a separate room. I also had the benefit of one huge long closet and three small foyer closers. Studios, though small, are indeed independence affirming! My favorite memories of that apartment include:

- The time a squirrel came in off the fire escape and helped himself to leftover fruit from the wine party I hosted the night before. He broke a glass, the jerk!

- Meeting a guy on jury duty who had lived in the same exact apartment a few years prior with his wife. Small world!

Pale blue/turquoise would be nice, but don't over-do it! Alternatively, you could do a pale purple, but that would make it more romantic. The blue would cool it down, be a little more modern. IMHO, anyway. :-)

We have a giant couch in our small living room... but it's not giant in the traditional sense. It's long (96") but not that high, so it doesn't overwhelm the space. And it's wide enough so both of us can lay there! Definitely one of the best purchases I have made.

I took stuff out of the bathroom before too (like leee), but now that our bedroom is tiny too, there's no space there. Our solution was to:

a. Add storage above the door, apparently suggested by Martha Stewart. And I thought I was being all original. I used a thrifted medicine cabinet that I got for $4.

b. Adding a curtain around our pedestal sink so we can store stuff underneath it.

And I too can attest to the ugly but functional over the shower head storage.
