Why would anyone use dried oregano when fresh is so much better?

This sounds really good, but IMO nothing beats Marcela Hazan's recipe:

Before people jump in with "omg, you're catering your own wedding", let me say: PROPS!

I wish more people would get their head out of the proverbial catering sand.

I did a guest post over at one of my favourite wedding blogs, that discusses my experience with self-catering, including our food:

Best of luck. The key is having lots of friends to help, and doing as much in advance as possible.

I'd order it in a restaurant. But, making it at home might require a few cups of coffee first.

They aren't dairy products, because they aren't created from milk.

They aren't meat, because they aren't flesh. Nor do they have the possibility to become flesh, as many have pointed out.

I can't say that I have the answer, other than that they are neither, and do we have to define them?

In Canada's Food Guide, I believe they fall under non-Meat Protein.

@akay depends upon farmersdaughter's height and the height of her ceilings. Our ceilings are 8 foot. My husband is 6'4, I'm 5'9. We can both reach the smoke detector with two hands.

The one thing that concerns me about most of these options is that smoke can still get in and that will actually increase the sensitivity of the smoke detector. I would suggest getting the right detector, because if you're always clearly the smoke out, then eventually there will be a buildup and it will continue to go off over little things.

I really think that most people would just be appreciative of the gesture, and that you shouldn't concern yourself too much about allergies, except perhaps nuts. If you're really concerned, I would buy a gift card for a local coffeeshop, simply because you're never going to cover off all of the allergies that exist.

I did something similar for our neighbours at Halloween when they dropped off an extra pumpkin (there were *none* to be found in the city). Whether or not they actually ate the cupcakes, they were very appreciative and I made it known how grateful I was...isn't that what neighbourliness is about?

Instead of tennis balls, which can sometimes overheat and stink, I usually use rolled up socks for drying my duvet cover. Same goes for down-filled outerwear!

I absolutely love my Vitamix, but I've had it for ten years. Would love a replacement (even though ours is still going)

I'm sorry, but whose maple syrup stays in the fridge for a year? Mine certainly doesn't.

I really don't feel that it's rude to eat in class if the class is scheduled at an incredibly inconvenient time. For example, my Monday class is 8-11. I'm sorry, but I'm just not hungry at 7 in the morning. Many professors voice their opinions about this early, and I feel that they should; said Monday morning class allows for "food, but not a buffet". That said, a 2-5 class, you should be able to go without eating.

My favourites for the classroom:

Breakfast:
Yogurt
Berries
Granola
Whole Grain Cinnamon Buns (made at home)
Hard-boiled eggs (eaten quickly...the smell can be a bit rank)

Lunches:
Cucumbers, mushrooms, broccoli and other non-crunchy veggies with hummus or baba ghanoush
Mini-pitas
Bean, veggie and sharp cheese salad.

Dinner is the one meal I can't bring myself to eat in class.

Emily, I think that most dining halls--given that they are AYCE--would be accepting of people putting food on their plate and then into a tupperware container. Further, if you pack a tupperware in a small purse, you're less liable to be caught.

I went out for Korean food for the first time and was surprised to see that at the end of the meal, we received little orange segments and grapes. It was just the right finish.

Usually though, a cup of tea and a snuggle with my husband is how I finish a meal.

@Food Monstar: I just think there are a few really wonderful, innovative places in the city, and lots of wonderful markets and things. I grew up in Toronto. I could have said Toronto, for it too is worthy. But it doesn't have Murray Street. Or Atelier.
