I would have used an over the rail flower basket.

I'm living in mine...well when it's finished, two rooms to go and a bunch of here and there stuff.

Why not purchase/make a fitted cover for your wing chair. With lots of patterned fabrics to choose from you may be a little more inspired to tackle window treatments and such. I've seen fitted covers that start @ 100.00 not bad I think.
And those little fingers will soon be covered with sticky stuff. You'd be able to throw that cover right in the washer. A good investment.

Shutters should fit the window. Remember to hang the shutters correctly. If they were/are working, the closed shutter should retard the water from going through to the window. A quirk I have, seeing them installed wrong.

Mine was called the "old house" in 1850 according to the historical soc. There are no fancy fixings here. Just failing wavey floors hand hewn beams and corner posts. A humble place with humble roots. It has its own charms and stories to tell.

Go to a furniture refinishing place and ask for the finish you want. They are set up with a dust free, vented room for just this kind of thing. You will love what comes home to you.

I'm serious with the cleaning lady thing. Hire her/him to work with you. Be honest and upfront that you want to learn how to be efficient.
I have (used to have) a problem with staying on track. Finding myself lost in a closet and suddenly realize that my day was lost and still had dust kitties under my bed.
