I'll join the crowd and laud Molly & family for valuing the personal history -and- the architectural beauty of this home. It's lived-in, inviting, a home and not an address.

But... I don't understand why this site forces people to apologize for their square footage or their zip code. The story is charming, but would the home be any less lovely if the family had simply bought the house? No- but so many commenters would have tried to shame them.

And then, the comments knocking the remodeled kitchen... another baffling AT attitude. This community expects people to "maintain the original character" of fine old homes, but often ridicules them when they have the money to do so. If (God forbid) they modernize in an affordable way, someone tells them they've ruined the house.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the positive overall response that this tour has garnered- but I shouldn't have to be. This is a platform, not an inquest!

Yummmm... I definitely need to get into a crumble-baking habit again. My strawberry-rhubarb recipe is on my old blog:

I've also found that packets of flavored oatmeal (i.e.: cinnamon & brown sugar) work great for the topping, and also make it easy to make single-serving crumbles: one peach and one packet of oatmeal in a ramekin.

That really is a blank canvas... I think we could all be more specific (and helpful) in our advice if we had a concept of what the rest of the house looked like, or what inspires you.

As it is:
- Not much you can do about the lack of ventilation, unfortunately.
- Paint will give you the most noticeable change (cheaply). Make sure to go glossy, as this must be a pretty damp room.
- Looks like you have plenty of room for free-standing storage or floating shelves.
- TP holders & towel bars are very cheap at the hardware store or Target- that's an easy fix.
- Potted plants can be very happy in steamy bathrooms!
- Go thrifting!

erinstl... I second the Wicked Plants recommendation. I have a signed copy from the Bone Room in Berkeley (a wonderful place to go for other wicked natural things, by the way!).

Lovely, classic bathroom (though that rug looks like it needs a little trim?). You really can't go wrong with black and white- and going with a newer storage cabinet in white helps it blend with the space.

I have the little rabbit dish and adore it! It holds my engagement ring whenever it's not on my finger:

seam2stressed... It's true, but I'll never learn :D I love the look of apothecary jars and bottles, and since we're in a 1 bathroom apartment, it helps dress it up for frequent guests.

I'm bookmarking the colander idea for when I have kiddos- it's important to dry off tub toys and keep them clean!

Were I single and catless, that bathroom with the pink tufted stool would be just the thing. Alas, fiancé would groan about the colors, cats would be an unstoppable force of scratching and destruction.

I'm a proponent of the spray bottle- at the very most, it's simply unpleasant for the cat, and if you do it right, they don't associate the punishment with you. When I yell or say no, my cats seem to take it as a challenge and deliberately disobey.

As for plants, I gave up and bought fakes... and now my cat chews on those too. You can't win!

I disagree with the other commenters that call this cluttered. It's a lot, yes, but the arrangements are so purposeful and curated. When I think of clutter, I think of piles that never quite make it to their final destination. That's clearly not the case here.

I'm intrigued, and I'd love to see some higher resolution images.

Putting a vase full of water on an electronic device screams disaster to me (but that's probably just because I have a cat). :)

I love this idea- and I disagree with SherryBinNH. I think the original blue was pretty jarring. The new fabric is subtle and really dresses up the technology.

This is definitely something I might try at home...

At first glance, this does look like a posh hotel. I like that you've kept the color scheme subdued- it's allowed you to play with furniture of different eras without it looking disjointed! The striped wall is a sophisticated touch. Nice job!

I appreciate that you're trying to accommodate the needs of your readers, but agree with the many others who have already commented: cutting down on your number of posts is only beneficial to your audience if the remaining content increases in quality.

If you want to be taken seriously as a design resource, something must be done about the lack of editing on this site. I can forgive poor grammar and spelling in a hobby blog, but I hold AT to a higher standard- this is your business! There is no shame in hiring an editor (heck, I'd volunteer for the job).

If effort is apparent on each and every post, I think your readers will reciprocate: you'll see the snark and sap in the comments section give way to rich and supportive discussion.

Also: twelveindustries, I am right with you.

The new seat and white paint is really cute, but I guess I'm confused: why was it necessary to cut the back off of the chair? Was there something wrong with it?

I'm not knocking the project- just curious :)
