Gorgeous home, awesome job. That workout room is dreamy.

And...big ups to West Seattle! I'm moving there tomorrow. But not to your house (darn). Can't wait!

Emika — when I wrote that I was actually thinking Halloween and Christmas, but I happen to hate orange and black together (and black "tinted" water? yuck), as well as red and green together. But baby and wedding showers where there's already a color scheme, school colors for a graduation, that kind of thing might translate well. Thanks for asking!

Jane — I meant that our *clean* kitchen towels, which are usually used to dry dishes and very occasionally for light counter-wiping tasks, also double as dinner napkins.

kimg924 - you're right, the Coat Tree Wall Sticker is a lot like this. I added the link to it and fixed the broken one. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes! Every little bit of encouragement helps, and I really appreciate it.

love, alyssa -- that is such a great idea! I'm checking the LL Bean website now for a fishing vest. I'm sure it'll come in handy after my leg heals as well (for photography and travel, I'm thinking?).

Also, step trash cans are a great invention for people with crutches!

What an awesome topic, Regina!

We have a love/hate relationship with our landlord. He is quite aged, and only the second owner of our 1917 cottage (he purchased it in the 50s, I think). He is an engineer and craftsman with a fantastic design sensibility, and he remodeled our home himself in a really open, modern style that still preserves the character of the place. He can still be found on the roof in knee pads clearing the gutters. I have so much respect for all of the above.

BUT...he can regularly be found reading women's magazines that come in the mail for his tenants (there are 8 units among a group of 4 cottages). I suspect he steals our Netflix (a suspicion also independently held by another tenant, which we only discovered as she was moving out). I caught him peeing in our bushes during the day (he lives next door). He's been known to look into windows of single female tenants. He eggs on tenant disputes rather than mediate or decide them.

So um, yeah, love/hate.

That's awesome. The fireplace looks like it could have been a 1970s downer to decorate around, but the lamps make everything look tied together and deliberate. Nice choice!

Interesting...'pawpaw' is what we call papaya in Trinidad. Since papaya's not a fruit I talk about a lot, it's only been recently that I've trained myself to say 'papaya' instead of 'pawpaw.' Now I understand the confused looks I would get with non-Carribbean folks when I would say 'pawpaw.' This must be what they were thinking!

@littlemt: we use Quicken Online. We tried Mint.com and Wesabee.com, but Quicken was the simplest and cleanest-looking, and the only one that could access all of our accounts, including student loans and investments. The only thing is that it's $3 per month, while the others are free, I believe. Good luck!

@partyshark: that's exactly it -- we didn't go the grocery store 40 times, but that's the combined number of all trips out, including lunch at work, weekend breakfasts out (my particular weakness!!) and dinners.

@TallulahBelle and others: it's funny how counterintuitively little tricks like this can work. For whatever reason, no matter what we're shopping for -- a week's worth of groceries, or particular ingredients for one special recipe -- the per trip cost is always roughly the same. It just doesn't work as well for us to spend more or less per trip. But it does work for us to make less trips, et voila!

Incidentally, my husband and I debated a lot about whether or not to post this; it seemed a little personal, and we weren't sure people would get it. We greatly appreciate the respectful comments, and I'm glad it's been helpful to at least a few of you!
