I know this is an older post, but since this is where I first heard of Distinctive Chesterfields when researching where to get my sofa, I figured it'd be a good place to leave a review in case others are considering ordering.

I waited a long time to buy a sofa that was exactly what I wanted (a green leather chesterfield), but most of the ones I found state-side were out of my price range. When I saw that I could have a hand-crafted chesterfield from England, shipped over for a few hundred less than the other company I was considering, I thought it sounded too good to be true. I looked at plenty of sites that featured reviews for the company and they all spoke glowingly of their experience.

I ordered a swatch and was impressed when it stood up to spills and scratches, and promptly placed my order at the end of January, specifying that I wanted a heavy rub-off of the antique finish so it looked lighter overall. I was told there was an average of 8-10 weeks for delivery time. They sent me a couple of photos at different stages until it looked exactly how I wanted it to.

My sofa was delivered fourteen weeks after I’d ordered it, with excessive plastic wrapping over the sides and top but virtually none on the bottom, which meant that the fabric covering the springs had been torn in one spot and the wood underneath nicked. Also the threading on one of the front legs was so off that I had to have my handywoman mother come and use her tools to fix it. The thing that irritated me that most though was discovering that they had only rubbed off the dark finish on the areas that showed in the pictures. Since I’d planned on floating the sofa in the room, I was upset over this error.

When I mentioned these issues to the company, they offered no apology, only replied that they’d look into wrapping the bottoms of their sofas in the future, and that they could recommend an American company to me that would be able to fix the coloring (which I would have to dish out more money to pay- apparently the hazy 12 month comprehensive warranty touted on their website does not cover very much).

Needless to say, the quality of customer service I experienced does not make me to feel compelled to recommend them. The quality of the leather is good and the frame appears to be solid, but if I had to do it again, I’d have ponied up the extra case to go with the other company I’d been considering, the Comfortable Couch Company. They use quality materials throughout the construction, are quick to respond to inquires, lifetime warranty on the frame, and courteous- pretty much the opposite of what I experienced with Distinctive Chesterfields.

I'm sure others have had more positive experiences with them then myself- consider this a negative one to help bring some perspective.

Oh, in response to the question above, I think the legs are slightly different, depending on the model. I have the Belchamp, which only has casters on the front legs, so it doesn't drift across the room whenever I sit down.

Thank you. This is exactly what I think of every time this type of criticism is brought up.

Seems like a cool house but the layout of the house tour is haphazard. The fact that some of the items listed in Resources of Note (like the Chesterfield) weren't featured makes me wonder if some photos were missing.

Beautifully done! I love that you really get a sense of their personalities.

Now does anyone know the make/model of the black leather chair in the living room? Cuz I experienced love at first sight.

I love everything from the cheaper version, and if I hadn't just committed to a dark gray bedroom, I'd be so tempted to replicate this! Strange that the headboard from Target looks to be higher quality than the one from PB Teen, though.

And to the people who are complaining that $555 is too high: you're getting a headboard, duvet set, bedside table, art, a throw pillow, and wallpaper- if you want to go any cheaper and still have it look good, you would need to hit up IKEA or DIY, as Dabney suggests.

What DonaldN is saying is that it's simply a matter of your priorities, which vary from person to person- some would rather spend their money on going out to eat, others on vacations they'll remember, and some would rather have nice plates and servingware for entertaining company. One's not better than another.

Anthro had a 100% wool version of this a few years ago, the Colossal Cables Throw. The nylon was a good addition- mine pills like crazy, shedding ivory colored fuzz balls everywhere. I'd get rid of it, but I'm pretty sure my cat loves it more than he loves me.

Like madsarah mentioned, Titina might already be on a healthy diet.

My cat's a round British Blue, weighing in at 28lbs; however he's only ever been fed the vet- recommended 1/2 cup of dry food in the morning and 1/4 in the evening. Some animals, like people, are genetically programed to be bigger.

So creative! And beautifully done to boot.

I just love your design sensibility- it's very reminscent of the remake of Pride & Prejudice from a few years ago.

I love the effect of the lighting, being a fan of aubergine myself, and I definitely wouldn't have thought of using a charcoal to achieve it.

I think though, that if a larger light fixture were introduced, the room would lose much of the dark drama that Patrick's clearly going for.

Overall, a lovely job.
