Love this part of Chicago. @anderlank, you can get legs just like that at IKEA. They sell them separate from tables and are about 25 bucks for a pair I believe.

Lasse,

You have such a beautiful space, congrats.

Would you be able to guide me to where you got the credenza from? I've been looking for months for something like it. Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know where to get that credenza? My girlfriend fell in love with it and it would look amazing in our house. If anyone can help me locate the source, that would be awesome.

I've had a few products from them for a few years, couldn't be happier. Sofas are awesome, and their tables and storage unit are great. This company gets really overlooked.

This was one of the few stores I kept as a secret, but now that it's out.... They are amazing people, and have great stuff there for DIY projects. Can't say enough about these guys, I've bought tons of awesome things from them.

I've had a GUS Modern Jane sofa for 2 years, and it still rides like it's brand new (You may want to look into that, as it has 3 cushions). The materials they use are soft and durable. It cost only 1500 but was worth it in the fact that I don't have to buy another sofa for the next few years. I think when people look at price points, they forget about quality. 2 years ago, I would have never considered Gus, but now that I have one, I won't look elsewhere. Great foam in the cushions, and really durable fabric.

A couple solutions to those that asked earlier,

If you are trying to hang something into a brick or concrete wall get a hammerdrill (for concrete and brick) or an impact hammer drill. Go to home depot they'll have thousands of options. Basically, it pounds the drill like a hammer and makes nice clean holes. You may have to get a masonry tip, but its super cheap for the whole setup. One of your neighbors would easily have one too.

Additionally, there's a great tip for those that want the look of an exposed brick without the hassle. When working on film sets, and we want an real exposed brick wall (but are set) we buy brick veneers. Its essentially the front 1/3 of the brick and we glue them onto walls and add the mud in between the spaces. You can do this on any wall, and its a lot cheaper than you think. The bricks come in tons of styles and shapes and colors and you can make a real wall and seal it, then enjoy the exposed brick. Just something in case people were considering that.

Inside the city of chicago, nobody should charge for water. I've lived in Wicker Park, Lakeview, and Roscoe Village and nobody I know of pays water. If someone is charging you water, they aren't a good landlord.

I swear I've seen this house too... is it on May? I go running by it all the time if it is.

In my opinion, Chicago is great because of brick buildings like this. Think of the upkeep too. You'll have to repaint this building every 2-3 years when the paint starts chipping and fall off, and you'll never get it back to real brick (which has never gone out of style). Besides, this color works well in that neighborhood and you know it. I'd mess with the trim, and leave it at that... save yourself the headache 4-5 years down the road.

Ikea Malm Line. Dresser and bed have moved 4 times with me and there's not a scratch or problem with any of them. I only look at things from Ikea that look like tanks, because that usually means they have more than 1-2 screw holding them together.

Like I said, I've loved my Malm stuff for the past 3 years now.

Also, those IKEA PS cabinets are outstanding.

I don't know if anyone else will still see this...

That70sHeidi - The smell remains because most paints (Krylon and Rusto) have crap chemicals in them, mostly lead. People always laugh, but if you use cheap paint, expect cheap results. The smell remains because of the kind of paint, the good stuff like Belton has a sweet smell to it, and I hang my stencils in my house all the time and can never smell them. Belton is one of the only paints that doesn't have lead in the aerosol btw.

As far as caps go, if people msg me I can direct you to places you can get them, or sell them to you at cost when I make an order from ArtPrimo. Each cap does a different thing obviously but a good artist only needs 3. (Stock, Fat, and Skinny). The rest is in how you control the can.

Although this is a good post, and there are sure to be many people that just find out about this... spray paint is a godsend. I use specialty spray paint to create stencils and find a beauty within this art form.

This post did however lack the best resource period for paint in the US.

ArtPrimo.com They stock everything, and they are cheap, and take pride in their orders. Every tagger or serious artist knows of this website and knows that they take care of you. They also carry the best brand of paint with the most colors (Belton Molotow) which runs about 6 bucks a can (but is sooooo worth it, it tries with no drips in about 2 minutes).

The loop is where you find the dog-eat-dog mentality that forbes is talking about, the neighborhoods aren't. Places like the Merchandise Mart and the Mag Mile is what breeds this kinda crap (if you ever make it to one of the upper floors, see how much people care about each other up there). Chicago is one of the only cities that I have found that you can strike up a conversation with anyone while waiting for the bus, and they won't get angry at you.

They probably visited during the winter, I would invite them to come back during June and write the same review, and no, the summers in Chicago are unlike the summers anywhere else, you don't know until you are here.

Please... don't post anymore Fairey stuff. The guy has made a living by ripping and altering the works of others. There are website dedicated to proving this, and Fairey himself hasn't really denied it...
