I like what I currently have, a nice laundry room in the building. I am able to go do laundry at off hours which is super nice. And it is great to be able to do it all at once. I have had to do it during a crowded time once or twice and that was awful, though. Still, when I had private laundry when I lived in a house, it seemed like I was constantly doing the wash, dry, fold, repeat routine.

I was waiting for other people to suggest a cat before I did because last time I suggested this in an online forum I was flamed. Not sure why, seeing as how cats were domesticated to fight rodents in the first place. ANYHOW, we had mice in our last house- my cat was always lurking around in the kitchen and one night we saw a mouse crawl out from behind the cabinet. My cat tried to get it but failed and the mouse escaped. Another time he tried and we captured it before he could get it and freed it nearby (you're not supposed to free them too far away or they get disoriented and can die). The third time (mouse #1? a new mouse?) my cat caught it and killed it immediately. We closed up a hole or two and never saw or heard another mouse. I also own a rental property- when I lived there with my cats I never had rodents. When a catless woman lived there, she did. Now another family with cats lives there- guess what? No rodents. Not only will cats usually kill any mice, but eventually the mice (rats too) leave because they know there's a cat around. My parents don't like cats, but have had some success with the electronic repellant thingies. As has been mentioned before, poison is bad not only because of the smell of dead mice, but because if they die out in the open, other animals, pets, wildlife might eat them and then THEY can also die. The snap traps may seem like a good idea but be aware that sometimes they don't snap right, or aren't strong enough or whatever and don't kill the rodent and then you have to deal with a stuck, injured, but not quite dead creature. Or you will hear it snap and then a lot of thrashing around. It's pretty unpleasant.

I bought an extra high bed frame and an extra long bed skirt so I could put those big Home Depot plastic crates with the red lids under the bed. We need all the storage we can get- 2 adults and 2 cats live in a 350 foot studio apartment. We have 4 of those crates under there now, along with a cat bed/hideout and a huge suitcase- but if needed, we could probably get 8 of them under there.

I have been resisting kale the whole time it's gotten so popular. I had never had it before but I enjoyed the "dirt and unhappiness" comment the other day. So, I just went to a cooking class where the teacher made a kale salad which was delicious. Really good. She did chop it up pretty small and didn't use the stems. And it had a dressing with about a million ingredients in it, along with smoked gouda and bacon. Probably anything would be good with fancy dressing, smoked gouda, and bacon. Anyhow, I was seriously surprised and will probably try to make it myself one of these days.

Why be so nasty? He came up with this idea and even made one (maybe? I can't really tell from the photo if it's real or cgi now that I'm looking closer). What have you done with your ideas, critics? There are all sorts of crazy things out there and people make a ton of money selling them. I was kind of taken aback by the "give me money" aspect of this post, but that's not the inventor's fault. AT didn't have to post it.

There are storage unit companies everywhere. You can get an indoor, locked, climate controlled unit as small as 5x5 or as big as a two car garage. They rent on a month to month basis. Yelp it for your area. Public Storage is one I have used in the past.

Party Planning Vent: What's So Hard About RSVPing?

I bet most people don't want to commit to showers and holiday parties- will they be in the mood on the day? Will they have to track down a gift? Will something better come along? But for a wedding, that seems weird- unless it's a guest list of hundreds and they aren't really close friends, then, the same non-committal thing. A lot of the people who respond with a yes are probably just those flaky types and those who don't like confrontation (like you calling them to ask), but have no real intention of showing up, or then again, they might. I wouldn't take a yes as written in stone these days. People aren't necessarily trying to be rude, but prefer a more spontanous get together over a planned one.

A friend of mine actually widened his doorway to get his couch into his media room. I think he finished it off and left it wide (no door) but if you're handy or got a contractor, you could widen the doorway, move the couch in, then have the wall and doorway repaired. Of course you'd never be able to get it back out unless you repeated the process.

I also say ugh. It's hard enough to clean around and behind the toilet. Plus these all add too much visual clutter and are mostly just plain ugly. And I couldn't get one even if I wanted it because there's not enough room between the toilet and sink! Try one of these instead. I have the fourth one on the list and it's very useful and looks nice, plus way less expensive.

If you're just wanting the size and shape and not these particular pillows, the other posters are right, down inserts give that non-overstuffed, squishable look. You can get the inserts in various sizes online. TJ Maxx/Home Goods has tons of down throw pillows, too. I got some from Target that were big like these and had a removable cover.

I had a similar problem in my old house. Heavy curtains are no match for traffic. I was never able to find a solution- altho I tried all suggestions for the year that I lived there. You may just have to use earplugs. I hate earplugs and I never got used to the noise, so finally just relocated the bedroom to a room on the other side of the house where the traffic noise was slightly less intense. BTW, other people slept in the noisy bedroom fine without being bothered, so I guess some people are just more sensitive to it. You sound like one of those people, as am I.

You guys are going to have to work on this together and he needs to be willing to part with a lot of his stuff. If he can do that, it should be no problem (altho 224 is miniature- I can't even picture it). We recently went from 1650 sq ft. to 375 in a new city. Since we don't know if it's a permanent move or not (I hope eventually to not be living in 375 sq feet), we left most of our stuff in a 10x10 storage space in the old city. We brought a queen sized bed and one set of sheets, a small desk, 2 folding chairs, and two computers (the desk, computers, etc is a huge space suck and when it's time for new computers we're getting laptops- so if you could live without a desk and computers 224 ft. might be easier), a small TV, a futon/couch, a small trunk that doubles as a coffee table, and a small metro shelf for kitchen stuff. We each brought one suitcase of clothes and shoes, a few boxes of kitchen stuff and that's it. We've been fine without 75% of our stuff. But we agree on how much we need and the level of clutter and cleanliness we will tolerate, which is huge in a small space. If you can sort that part out (maybe you should ask Dr. Phil rather than AT?), there are millions of ideas here and elsewhere on how to decorate a small space. We're doing all white and light woods to keep the space airy and bright (and because it's what we have).
