Yes, the Emeco chair is worth whatever price Emeco chooses to sell it for because it's their product.

If the company was flattered, they wouldnt be fighting the sale of the knockoffs:

If you were a songwriter, and someone else recorded your song without your permission and without paying you for it...would the "flattery" of that action satisfy you? I doubt it.

"If you cant afford it, then you shouldnt own it. "
What a pompous ass!

No..it's called integrity. I dont support the theft of other people's work and I dont steal myself. I dont buy fake Coach purses. I dont download music for free. I dont buy knockoffs of designer chairs because the original is out of my price range. If you want to steal, that's your choice. Just be honest about what you're doing.

I am always dismayed when this website that supposedly celebrates good design and creativity recommends buying knockoffs. I regularly see the question: "where can I get something like this but cheaper." If you cant afford it, then you shouldnt own it. Buying knockoffs is supporting the theft of people's work and ideas.

I've never understood the point of this product. Why a drawer? I see no benefit to that at all versus a door. And the drawer's reduced size versus a regular dishwasher will limit the size of items you can put in.

Even the commercials I've seen for it don't demonstrate a consumer benefit. It's just a guy saying "dish...drawer...dish...drawer." So what is the selling point of this product?

For the people here saying they love them...why? how are they different from a standard dishwasher for you? I am truly baffled by this product.

This comes across to me as a very sophisticated use of color. The window frames being almost the same color as the walls make it almost seem like you are floating in space and gives your fantastic view that much more of a punch. You've managed to make this a very warm space while keeping an industrial edge. very well done!

I love Fiesta Ware and I love how you've used the colors as the theme for your kitchen. I also really like those two slim cabinets on either side of your stove...what a great use of space. The floor is fun and interesting and one of the elements that I think makes this kitchen a winner. It would have been easy to go tame there.

I like everything about this entry, though I find the tile backsplash a bit busy/distracting. But once again..that was an area that would have been easy to go neutral on..so congrats that you went bold and colorful! You have a fun, happy, homey kitchen.

and there's never such a thing as 'too much' Fiesta Ware!

I lived in an apartment once with painted counter tops and they held up remarkably well. I lived there 5 years and never had of the scratches or chips that I was expecting.

this topic is making me feel so much better. I also sort everything by color, including socks.

I have two rods..the one on the left is all tops/shirts. the one on the right is all skirts, dresses, pants on hangers.

And on the back wall between the two rods I have two stacks of those closet organizers that hold bins for socks that are sorted by color, various bins for undies, and a bin for sleeping-in only tshirts, etc. it holds 9 bins..and only takes up a two square feet of closet floorspace. A friend claims the fact that I fold my undies means I am officially crazy. but I am feeling very at home here!

the bins are rubbermaid, and I bought eight but needed nine and they quit making this style, so one bin doesnt match. and it still bugs me! I wont even admit how far I've driven trying to find that last matching bin. Then you would know that I really am officially crazy.

I'm not a fan of the curtains going to the floor in a kitchen.

Why not make your own doors? Get two pieces of thin plywood..I think it's called luan..cut to fit the door frame.
Attach hinges to each side and knobs in the middle and have the doors open like a 'side by side' fridge.

The material I'm talking about is maybe 1/2" wide. If that is thin enough to close without hitting the protruding elements of your washer, you could hinge them from the inside.
If it's not thin enough for clearance, you could get the pieces cut to match the outside edges of the door frame and hinge them from the outside.

You might need to use Piano hinges on each side for sturdiness. You could find hinges and knobs the same color as your stainless appliances and make them a decorative element.

Then you'd have doors you could paint to blend in with the wall. or it Might be fun to paint them with chalkboard paint.

Would it be possible to take out the guts of the computer and turn that into storage? It would be great with shelves and hanging rods for clothes.

it's a great old oak card catalog cabinet. it's not supposed to look modern. why not sell it for a couple hundred dollars and buy what you really want.

bird and beef,
I think your approach in dealing with your landlord is excellent. It was the various suggestions to you to ignore your landlord's wishes and paint anyway that I was commenting on.

I hope you can convince him! I like the look of painted brick
and it would certainly improve your space.

If you can't, take a look at the top two pictures on this link:

They are a before/after from a famous episode of Trading Spaces where Doug built the same kind of fireplace 'shell' suggested here. The woman hated it and walked off crying, though her mic stayed open and you could hear her sobbing as her husband kept saying "She's not happy...She's not happy"

it takes quite alot of nerve and lack of consideration to make permanent changes to SOMEONE ELSE'S property. If someone painted property that I owned against my wishes, I would do more than keep their deposit, I'd sue them.

I'm a big fan of keeping the space between pictures/artwork the same and the outside edges asymmetrical.

Moving someone else's laundry: if the machine has stopped and you are not there to remove your own clothes, it's perfectly acceptable for someone else to move them. They dont know if/when you'll return. Just be there before the load is finished, and your problem is solved.

This whole thread has reminded me of how very happy I am not to be dealing with laundromats and apt laundry rooms anymore.
The hygiene angle of putting my clothes in a machine that dozens and dozens of strangers have also used has always creeped me out.

you can brighten up the interior of the cupboard by creating a false background. Cut posterboard to size to fit between the shelves and then paint it whatever color you prefer, or use fabric or wallpaper. if you get the fit right, the posterboard stays in place without any kind of attachment so it leaves no damage.
