Don't let the bedbugs bite!

On a more (less?) serious note, don't paint the wood -- it's gorgeous. Maybe a slate-colored linen or chenille? That would go well with your rug, I think.

This is by far my favorite post on this site, which is saying something since there are so many! Anyway, I've never heard this expression, but find so much comfort in it as it applies to people, even. Thanks!

While I think the final result is kinda lovely, I don't think you should go around broadcasting what it once was! If I weren't out of town I'd be hugging my own Queen Annes, telling them not to be afraid.

This is beautiful, and while I normally bristle at the idea of "needing" things, there is no other way to describe the pull it has on me. Why must she be in London?!

I'm kind of stumped as to furniture placement, but my first thought is that you can minimize the feeling of "falling into" the room from the front entrance by placing a waist-high shelf perpendicular to the wall next to the door (and opposite the wall of french doors to the dining room) to create a kind of hallway. If the shelves are open (like those Ikea Expedit shelves) it wouldn't be claustrophobic, and would steer foot traffic along a particular path through the room. It would also make for a good landing strip when you walk in. Anyway, maybe you'd be able to figure out more easily where to put the couch and chair(s) once you add that new "wall."

I love this place. The round glass table in the bedroom is a nice touch in terms of creating a workspace that doesn't look like it takes up as much room as it does, and I really like the incorporation of Ikea with more original finds. It makes me miss DC.

But that feather fireplace would give me the willies every single day and night. I couldn't click past that photo fast enough!

I agree with Sunnydark that you could put the legs of the furniture on the rug for a quick fix. Play around a bit with the placement of the two sofas, too. You might find that shuffling things up a bit will do the trick in the short term.

I also agree that you should move the red boxes elsewhere, or even "reupholster" them in a fabric that can tie the blue pillows and red rug together -- perhaps a paisley? Or a chocolate brown.

Anyway, I'd try the cheap and easy fixes before going shopping, which seems to be a common suggestion from the AT readership.

I'd like to be the kind of person that would pass down my gorgeous Peruvian side tables so someone else can get some joy out of them, but they're going to make a beautiful coffin. Everyone in hell is going to be so jealous.

But I agree with Jesse Lu...perhaps you could use different storage and display options on the parts of the shelves that extend into the "living room" section. That would give some more visual separation while matching the mood of the furniture. I think it's a texture and space issue -- to address it, I'd keep all of those books and magazine boxes on the office side, and put some wicker baskets (green, red, brown) and personal effects on the living room side. It's a little too busy as it is.

I don't think one choice is smarter than the other, Bromelia. I've never heard of anyone actually throwing away cheap sheets when they buy a new set -- most people keep old sheets in rotation for variety's sake, or use them for guests. But if you know people who put $100 sheets on their guest beds, let me know because I have plenty of vacation time!

That Santa Rita 120 is a great choice. I'd also add, to the $12 and under category: Barefoot (Zinfandel and Shiraz), La Veille Ferme, La Bicyclette, and Trapiche.

(I wish I lived in a state that allowed TJ's to sell wine!)
