Probably not the point, but just invest in a $135 sewing machine. It's not hard to make curtains. They're usually some sort of rectangle. Just measure, fold down the edges, and sew a line.

I have carpet in my master and I DESPISE IT. It is SO DISGUSTING. I'm pretty sure there's mold growing underneath it, and the space is so small, it's almost impossible to get our vacuum inside--or for that vacuum to move around at all.

It is my fondest dream to get rid of that carpet and install tile. One of these days...one of these days...

I can't tell from your picture if your floor is tile, parquet, or vinyl. If it's anything other than wood, I highly recommend putting in black and white checkerboard floor.

I put one into a similar kitchen and it made the whole room look instantly vintage and sharp. I used 18x18" peel and stick vinyl squares (they had two black and two white squares each.) They were super inexpensive, simply to lay down and I loved the way they looked. You can tile it yourself with black and white porcelain for the same look and little more money.

I agree with the white subway tile on the backsplash/walls. You can even look into a retro light fixture from school house electric for a true 20s feel.

I have a blog dedicated to the MCM houses in Utah. There were dozens of architects in the area whose names were never well known, but who built beautifully modern homes.

Sshutterbug-- it's even more practical to have a 1 bd with a baby. The reality is, it's often easier to have them in the same bed as you or as close by as possible. It's rotten to have a baby in a room at the other end of a large house, so a 1 bd is just downright practical. Sometimes baby is in your bed, sometimes baby is in his bed.

In the old days, babies and toddlers slept in the same room--or in a nursery right off the master bedroom--for years, like three. It's SO EASY for nursing.

I've known city dwellers that turned larger closets into en suite nurseries for their new babies, or simply had a smaller scale crib in the same room. It's just a lifestyle change, and with a new bundle completely upending your old life, a shared bedroom will be the least of your worries.

Enjoy the city life!

I did a similar fix with our light fixtures, only I added paint.

Ours were a terrible 80s "brass" finish that didn't go with our more modern house. I took them down, spray painted them with a brushed nickel finish, and changed the shades to something actually quite similar to yours. They look awesome.

$6 plus a can of spray paint? Perfect.

Growing up my mother would make Muesli.

She'd cook a cup of oatmeal, add a large container of yogurt, and add any chopped fruit she had on hand: grapes, melon, peaches, apples, raisins, really anything. Garnish with a few toasted walnuts and we had a delicious cool dinner that kept for a few days. Sometimes we'd have garlic bread on the side if we were feeling complicated. Can't beat it!

I actually adore that tub--since it appears to be a ceramic or porcelain press and not actual fabric.

And you know what? I'll say it, WHY NOT have some sort of awesome vinyl upholstered tub if you're the type of careful person who could pull that off? I'm too much of a disaster, but thumbs up to anyone who could.

A friend of mine and I figured this out a few years ago when we found clear glass plates at less than dollar a piece. We bought sets and have traded them back and forth for our various parties. I've added in IKEA white plates, and we simply don't have to use disposables for parties anymore.

Yes, disposables are easy, and sometimes recyclable, but there's something about real plates that communicates to your guest that you think they're worth the trouble. It's warm and fuzzy.

I have also picked up those old glass reception sets for .50 each at thrift stores. They give such an Anthropologie look with each plate pressed to look like a dahlia. I have 25 of those and love to pull them out for parties. They must have been a popular pattern back in the day, because I keep finding matching plates at different thrift stores.

My heart is thumping so fast that my breath is getting ragged. Holy cow.

Does anyone know what their prices are like? Are they consignment prices, retail type prices, or higher than retail like a specialty shop? I assume it would be more than IKEA (clearly) but would it be less than DWR? I live one time zone away, so a trip would be an event.

Oh for the love. What was Morgan to do? Her four year old boy ASKED FOR a teepee party. Was she supposed to sit him down and describe the genocide? How about we take an age-appropriate view of this party? There is time enough for a lecture on this country's very checkered past--like when the boy turns 6. Let a child explore our history with innocence for a little longer.

I kind of adore. I've been trying to find a way to work with my dark silver headboard, perhaps I just need to get monochromatic with it.
