Right-on Lizzykewl, I was going to suggest more or less the same thing. Plopping that sofa in the middle of the "hallway" will certainly remove the hallway/corridor feel

Also since the sofa is right in the center of the room, it draws attention to itself and can make for a very "come sit and relax on me" feel.

Dig it, love it. I like the sparseness of it.

Hmm, wouldn't the heat coming out the back of the fridge be bad for that wine sitting up top?

I've had the same keyboard on my home PC for 17 years now. It's an XT keyboard, so I have an adapter to PS2. With the phasing out of PS2 to USB I don't know how much longer I'll be able to use it. I love it though, it has a steel case, is heavy, and the key action is fantastic. The layout is a little odd since there have been changes since 1990, but I have no trouble switching between home and work, where the keyboards are newer.

The cover and the sides of the keys has acquired quite a patina, but that just gives it character. I still vacuum it out regularly and it seems to be indestructable otherwise.

I fully MP3'd my CD collection a few years ago. It's tedious, but with 2 computers and an automated script, it went by fairly quickly.
The ~800 CDs are all sitting in a box in a storage closet.

However, my 3000 records won't be digitized anytime soon :)

I have a pair of the Tavola Luce side-tables which I use as nightstands next to my bed. I picked them up from Topdeq about 6 months ago. I actually only bought one, but it was damaged in shipping: the inner cube was cracked. The Topdeq folks sent out a new one that day (with a different carrier) and it arrived just fine. I removed the inner cube from the broken one and bought a small globe light from Artemide to sit on top of it.

You can just wait until you get to Europe and buy an unlocked tri-band GSM phone with a bunch of features for far less than you'll likely find in the U.S. I was in Europe for all of June this year and when I arrived in Amsterdam, the electronics store in the airport had low-end tri-band Nokia phones for 40EUR.

In all the placed I visited on the trip, getting a pre-paid SIM card was as complicated as buying a bottle of water. In Amsterdam, all over Romania, Vienna and London you just walk up to the mobile store, hand over 10 EUR or 10 GPB note and you have a brand new SIM card with minutes. Hungary was a bit more hassle because the government regulations there require you to provide all your personal info: name, address, age, etc.

If you're going to be hitting a lot of countries, it's probably cheaper to buy new SIM cards in each. Otherwise you'll get hit with roaming. I didn't call the U.S. much at all, but I sent a lot of text messages, which cost about .10 EUR each.

I've never had a hard drive just completely up and die all at once. Usually a few sectors will go bad and if you are on top of things you can transfer nearly all your data off before something more terrible happens. That's been my experience at least.

Good Questions: How Can I Give My Bedroom A Makeover?

I don't use the Soft Scrub all the time, only as a "spot cleaner" for those areas with the baked-on crud that seems impervious to all the mild-and-water-and-elbow-grease methods. I'll squirt a little SS on the spot, let it sit for about 1/2 minute then scrub-up the spot with a regular sponge. So far it's worked great and I haven't noticed any scratching of the surface.

I have a GE model that looks just like this one and Soft Scrub works like a charm on the stove top.
