That makes me want to throw up.... and after reading the other comments, it sounds entirely unsafe. A farmer that lives across from my parents used some sewer sludge to "fertilize" his field a few years back and smelled so horrible they had to close up the windows and turn on the AC as to not feel sick from it. I pour some red wine vinegar in a glass jar, cover it with saran wrap and rubber band it on, then poke little fruit fly sized holes in the saran wrap. They get in, and can't get out. I hate those little buggers and this does the trick. Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | How To Get Rid of Fruit Flies? Good Question |

Oh, glad I saw this post. My landlord was discussing refinishing my tub. I just used some CLR on it and it looks a lot better. I can't fix the chipping, but its minimal. I think I'd rather deal with it then all the nasty fumes everyone is mentioning. Yuck. Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | Is Bathtub Resurfacing Green? Good Question |

Yeah.... don't agree with quite a few of those. Those are big publicized companies.... there are many smaller companies that are WAY more green. Wal-mart, really??? What about Method or Seventh Generation? Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | The 10 Greenest Brands in America |

I recycled my old plastic containers as they leach chemicals into my food. That was a health consideration for me. I also bought a stainless steel skillet to use instead of my non-stick ones. I didn't get rid of the skillets as they weren't cheap and I do use them occasionally if I'm cooking a lot and need multiple pans. I also got rid of old personal care products containing parabens, sulfates, etc due to the effects they have on the body. I've been planning to go thrift store shopping and buy some lovely old chairs and recovering them myself to save money and save them from the landfill. Can't wait until I move to my new place to go find some old treasures to restore. Older furniture just seems to be better quality and sturdier, not to mention they often have more character. I think coffee grinds can be used in the garden. I worked in a coffee shop in college and a woman would come by weekly to collect grinds from us for her garden. Not sure what it does or if its only for certain types of plants as I can imagine they would add some acidity to the soil. I haven't used dryer sheets in at least 2 years. I don't miss them at all. And on a side note, when I saw that picture I was wondering what my stuffed animal was doing in that dryer... yes, I have that same bear! Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | Simple Green: Give Up Dryer Sheets |

Oh, almost forgot. Someone mentioned not consuming canned goods. One brand that is safe and free of BPA's is Eden Organics. They sell a variety of beans and canned tomato products and many other goodies that I'm quite fond of. Here's a link to their products Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | Alert! I'm taking a trip to Clearwater Beach shortly. I plan to bring all my own eco friendly toiletries as to not use any "hotel" nasty ones. We rented a small fuel efficient car for the times we need to drive, but we plan on taking the local trolley or walking as much as we can. We're also taking a shuttle to and from the airport in Chicago. Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | Survey: How Are You Greening Your Summer Travel? |

Frozen foods are healthier for you than canned foods. Eden Organics is the only brand to my knowledge that makes canned food (beans) that does not leach chemicals into the food. Scary. I just recently switched to everything organic. Organic milk is amazing. I will never go back to regular. Fat free organic tastes so much richer than regular skim. I made my parents try some while they were visiting me, and my dad didn't believe me that it was fat free and wanted to see the carton, ha!
