Is it ridiculous I am excited to see Apartment Therapy talking about the town I used to live in? (I live about an hour northwest of Rochester now, but I still visit often). I don't have kids, but have been to the Strong Museum with my friends with kids and it is a blast! (my husband and I sneaked away to check out the more museum-y historical exhibits when our friends' kids were done playing for the day)

Anyone else read these comments and get a paranoid feeling that you are afraid to have anyone over to your house ever again?

I never read the Nancy Drew books...but the picture for this post caught my eye since my name is Kira. ;)

When we travel, I prefer the side that is farthest away from the door or closest to a wall. (And I see I'm not the only wife that does this!) It must be a security thing! I'm on the right side at home. But I think I'm generally "cheerier" than my husband...although he is more confident, calmer and deals with stress better than I do. I don't make more money that he does though, he's the breadwinner of our household.

I'm a Muppet nut. I love anything Muppets (including Sesame Street)...but I have the same reaction, the popularity of Elmo annoys me, but I LOVE Grover. I think it is a childhood nostalgia thing. When I as a kid, Grover was #1 Sesame Street monster. I have no idea when Elmo came along and got so popular. I think he'd annoy me less if they were equally popular. I actually don't mind watching Elmo on the show, and I actually read the puppeteer's autobiography about being the man behind the Muppet, which makes it harder for me to hate the character, knowing the behind the scenes. I think it's all the merchandise that annoys me.

I think having a wishlist on Pinterest is a good idea (and I think people are getting too easily offended by the wording of the post).
I made a "wish list" Pinterest board before Christmas, since family members are always asking me what I want for Christmas, and I always draw a blank. Plus, I feel weird about voicing specifics because I didn't want to set any expectations. I am simply happy to receive a gift. And "Wish List" is different from "Gift Registry". I pinned things in my Wish List board without expectations.... I didn't EXPECT anyone to get me anything on the list, but it was there if they needed ideas (and I made sure the things I pinned were realistic & affordable...no cars or $10,000 diamond rings). My mother, husband, and future sister-in-law are on Pinterest as well, and I was pleasantly surprised when, on Christmas morning, I got 4 of the things I had put on my wishlist. (2 of them were from my sister-in-law-to-be, who doesn't know me that well yet and would have been lost as to what to get me otherwise!)

As for Valentine's Day?...my husband is getting me a dishwasher with our tax return. (but he knew I wanted that without the help of Pinterest!) ;)

I love giving handmade gifts, but I've always found men (ie: dad, husband, brother) hard to hand make gifts for. But this year, my dad specifically asked me for a gift I could make...a large drawstring bag for his collection of bungee cords! My brother bought me one of these for Christmas 2 years ago since he knows I am a BIG Muppet/puppet fan. It was definitely the best Christmas gift ever! I got to design it myself (it doesn't look like me though). I named him Jake and I do YouTube videos with him now under the username JakeThePuppet.

I don't have kids, but when I was a kid, my dad would play all the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas CDs on repeat on Christmas morning while we all opened our presents and had cinnamon rolls for breakfast. They are still my favorite Christmas albums. I could listen to their rendition of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" on repeat all day!

(BTW, beckosmo, my dad loves Boney M too! I'm always amazed when other people know about them!)

I've been wanting one I saw on Etsy that says "Keep Calm and Sew On" (http://www.etsy.com/listing/62159183/keep-calm-and-sew-on-5x7-poster-lime)... a sentiment that I need to remember when I'm freaking out about making more inventory between craft shows.

LOL. I saw the title of this post and immediately thought the exact same phrase the post started with! "What DOESN'T a teepee for cats have to do with kids?" I have fond memories of turning my family's carpet-covered cylindrical cat condo into a fort or cave for my dolls and action figures.
I do agree with the previous commenters though. I wish they'd offer the pattern so we can DIY it and reuse some cardboard boxes!

So weird. I make plush creatures and sell on Etsy, and I just made a plush fox a few weeks ago. And I had no idea they were the new "it" animal. I thought owls were still reigning.

Two years ago Halloween night was nice and warm, so my parents, husband and I all dressed up as pirates and lit a fire in the fire pit in the front yard. My mom has an old trunk as a decoration in her garden, and she went through the house and gathered up old kid's meal toys and markers and stuff and put them in the trunk. Then she had a wooden ornately carved jewelry box that she put "fun-size" candy bars in. When the kids would come up, we would say "Arr! Ye have a choice! Pick from the treasure chest (trunk) or the booty box (jewelry box). " Most times the younger kids would go first and choose the treasure chest, then the older kids would get wise and pick from the booty box. It was great fun! We wanted to do it the next year, but it was too cold.

"The Monster At The End Of This Book" starring Grover of Sesame Street. It was one of my favorite books as a child! And even now I love reading it to my friends' kids and mock-yelling "YOU TURNED THE PAGE!!!" and pleading (as Grover) to not have the kids turn any more pages of the book, because there is a MONSTER at the end of the book...and (spoiler alert!) it turns out to be Grover himself!

My husband and I decided to cancel our cable in order to save money when we were going to buy our first house last summer. I thought I'd hate not having cable, but after living without it for 3 months, I found out it wasn't that bad. After we moved, we never bothered trying to get cable again. And since we live out in the country and don't even get local channels, we don't even watch "real" TV anymore. We watch movies and TV shows on Netflix, watch our favorite current TV shows (like Lost) on Hulu or get season passes on iTunes (basically, you pay for a season of a TV show and can download and episode the day after it airs).

Two of my favorite things to play with as a child were two ceramic mice my mother had painted for me...a little boy mouse in overalls and a little girl mouse in a pink dress. They were meant to be only for decoration, but I would play with them like they were little toy figurines.

The problem is that some "thrift" stores like Goodwill (which I used to work at) are not embracing their role as a thrift store and refuse to put items that might need a little TLC onto the sales floor in an attempt to "up the quality" and be seen as a reputable retail store. You wouldn't believe how much repairable stuff gets thrown in their dumpster (and then they have a locked fence around it to discourage dumpster divers for insurance reasons). So much goes to waste!
Their prices have gotten higher too.

To save a bit of money, we got rid of cable a couple months before we bought our first house. Now that we are in our new house, we don't even watch "regular" TV. We do Hulu, Netflix (discs & instant queue on our X-box), and our Apple TV. I do miss certain shows I used to watch on cable, but you know, everything eventually comes out on DVD! (and I can still get my occasional cable fix at my parents' house).
