hooray! I'm pumped about this post because I have this same thing going on in my loft. My kitchen and living room are basically the same room, besides the bar in the middle, and I have the kitchen painted a bright retro teal, and then the focal point in my living room is a big, bright yellow antique sideboard. You see all of it together when you walk into our place, and I think it's great. Good to see others appreciate the combo!

thanks for all of the ideas! I agree that the candle thing is awful and needs to go, so it's going tonight! I would LOVE to get new doors, but we'll have to see what my budget says. aaaand now I have lots to think about!

the steamer is one of the best purchases I've ever made. indeed it's a bit big, but we just roll it in and out of the closet when we need to use it.

and can someone please tell me what those things are called in the photo with the necklaces hung on them? my mind is blank today and I would love to search ebay for one of the smaller ones.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!! I have a lot to think about now. I would love to hang a light there, but I live in a loft with really high ceilings that are all wood, so I'm not sure how to really go about that.

However, the idea of having a small table and a lamp sounds good too. Oh, and I know the wall colors are bad, I'm working on that too :)

you can TOTALLY do it yourself. I have an old sideboard that was really detailed and intricate, and I just went for it. just sand it down, prime it, and paint it. dont be scared! and as for color, I would veer away from the lime green. try white, black, or possibly teal. or yellow! here is what I did with mine...

Hooooooray for heirlooms! Thankfully my mother is awesome and likes to share! I have..

1. bedroom set that my mother got when she was 15. she gave it to me when I was in high school and I still use it because it is beautiful. this is what I sleep on every night!
2. two green velvet tufted chairs from my grandmother, used in sitting area in bedroom
3. sideboard that was my great aunt's (which is painted bright yellow and we use in the living room)
4. china cabinet built by my grandfather. I painted this black and took the door off of the front to display my vintage camera collection, which came from my grandfather as well.

I feel like i'm leaving a lot out, but these are what we make the most use of and are also my favorite pieces of furniture.

the black and white framed rug is amazing! does anyone know where I can find it or one similar?
